Here is a new test version update v2.04 firmware for the Cube U30GT2, based on a new Rockchip firmware published 2013/07/27.

(U30GT 2 V2.04 20130727.rar)

Build information:

Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (lcp@tchip-super) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #27 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 26 19:37:42 CST 2013

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean:  rk30sdk/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.lcp.20130705.090812:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU version 1.41 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • increased storage space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB
  • firmware download comes in two versions: stock recovery or CWM recovery (courtesy androtab.info)

Download:

(stock recovery)  kasty-cube_u30gt2-422-204t_20130727-rooted4.zip

(CWM recovery) kasty-cube_u30gt2-422-204t_20130727-cwm_rooted4.zip

Flash the firmware with Rockchip Batch Tool 1.7,  use Restore button.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have anymore a Cube U30GT2 tablet to test the custom firmware.

Thanks Robiom for his support

Thanks for this.  Do you know what the differences are between this and the previous 2.04 test version?  Just wondering if it's worth upgrading.  Also, would a wipe be necessary?

I haven't seen a detailed revision history, all I noticed is that only the kernel has been updated since last release, the Android system is the same.

I don't have a Cube U30GT2, so I can't test the firmware myself.

Cheers.

Yes good shout mate, we need to know first of all what the differences are if any compared to the 2.04 test version please :)

I still cant quite believe that after all this time there still isnt any stable full release version of the 2.04 test version, its quite crazy, lol, I know these things take time but as the company "must" know of all the problems, they have to know as they will have been inundated with complaints about the thing not working properly and still, no stable firmware unless you go back in history and use a golden oldie image which is as usefull as a snowball on the sun, lol !

Anyway, I hope there has been major changes in this new "test firmware version", I doubt it though, but we shall wait and see if someone can come back and tell us what the changes are from the first 2.04 test version, eh ? sooner the better please :)

Is this a version with CWM recovery included?

BTW, do you know why VPN app like Private internet access can't connect (what's missing and how to solve this)?

Thank you for making rooted rom for us :)

Powerbutton is fixed, no need to press twice anymore. This is massive improvement, can't believe they managed this in 2013. Maybe next stable is Android 4.3 with multiwindow this century. ;)

Also, battery indicator now works, no need to install an app for that.

I'd say that the overall "feeling" of the tablet is smoother (but not by much, and it might just be my imagination...), google play is a bit less laggy, benchmark scores are a bit better, there is no "test version" displayed on the "About tablet" info.

Another subjective position might be that the battery seems to last a bit longer.

I installed the original ROM and (after an extensive battle) rooted it. I still have a 2GB partition for apps, but I'd say that, for the time being, I really do not need more space, and since I'd already installed all my apps and files, I'll also wait for the multi windows release.

However, I'd also like to know what changes can be made to the build.prop file, if possible.

All in all, thanks admin for the hard work!

I've found out how to disable cores on u30gt2. In the folder /sys/devices/system/cpu are subfolders cpu0 to cpu3, if you change the "1" to "0" in file "online" into one of theese subfolders the chosen core will go offline.

I have the idea to compile a governor named hotplug / hotplugX that is able to switch the cores on-demand to save battery drain.

I don't know how to compile but i've found a tutorial. If someone is able to compile the .ko-file(s) it would be nice.
