Since I have this firmware on my new Cube U30GT2,I have seen some variations of display/brightness issues over the browser and other apps. At first I did not noticed this. Now I know the issue, it is unbearable. The screen is literally blinking when I touch it. I reinstalled the good old firmware and now its OK.

PS: auto brightness was OFF- (I'm no stupid. Lol)

Update after 2 Days:

+ in general buttersmooth and responsive, very satisfied with performance

+ good wifi reception

+ playing Videos using mxplayer, tv stream or youtube works fine with hw+

+ no problems with games so far except Zen Pinball (with Zen being optimized for Tegra)

= Battery Update: that was the first full battery-cycle, spent most of the time installing and running/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdsting apps and some videostreaming, wlan activated, I would say moderate usage. not too shabby, but will watch the next cycles before rating ;) . So far, I´m ok with the runtime.

mw7q95m9qgnk.pngImage Enlarger

= keyboards seems to lag in some apps; might have to do with me using swift keyboard tablet, will try stock and update here UPDATE: stock keyboard lags in the same apps as swiftkey tablet (play store, google now, chrome etc). Much less, but noticeable. Seems odd, regarding the good overall responsiveness of the UI.

=wifi dropped a few times for apparently no reason; it recovered in a few secs but the videostream stopped. might have something to do with "wifi powersave". have it deactivated now, will update here UPDATE: have observed no more drops since deactivating powersafe. will update if they come back.

- Chrome is very slow for me,at times it takes like 10-15 seconds before it starts loading a page or responding to any input. That´s sad, but Boat Browser works as smooth as chrome on the nexus 7 :)

- having a small problem with launcher-background not scrolling when swiping through the homescreens. happens with stock as well as other launchers (tried Nova and Go) UPDATE. seems on some Samsung and HTC 4.2.2 Roms, scrolling background is disabled, maybe same here? Would be a pity, if so.

- Tablet randomly shut down two times this evening. will report back if something reproducable turns up.

@admin: you´re very welcome, thank YOU,sir, for putting work into a device you don´t even posess :)

same here, seems to happen only in stock browser.

@BJH543: Here´s a snapshot I made this evening. lighting was good, result was...breathtaking :D . but I consider the cam a gimmick, wouldn´t think of using a 10.1" for capturing snapshots anyway ;)

Hi all,

I upgraded yesterday my brand new u30gt2 yesterday with your suggested firmware. I expected to be able to use multi user / profile feature.

Pity, I can't find the option in the settings.

Have you deseabled it or is it due to my lack of knowledge of Android ?

By the way, update worked gread at first time.

Thanks for your help.

For whatever reason, the Multi user selection has been disabled, it should be underneath the Apps menu in Settings.

However, did a couple of minutes on google, and found that adding

fw.max_users=5

to build.prop, then rebooting, enables the feature. This allows up to 5 users, change the number as desired.

I edited build.prop using ES File Explorer, navigating to /system/build.prop and adding it to the bottom.

Proof:

U30GT2 Users Enabled

EFloPyuh.pngImage Enlarger

PBHu3Nlh.pngImage Enlarger

Usual disclaimer, messing with build.prop can make your tablet explode, ect ect...

Admin, maybe a worthwhile edit to future firmwares?

Thanks for the tip.

I expect this setting to be built inside future or final Android 4.2.x firmwares from Cube. If this doesn't happen, I'll have it setup in an additional ArcTools package.

Cheers.

hi all,

I had the same problem with flickering brightness in the stock browser but now I'm using Opera Mini it's cleared.

On a seperate issue, (well two really), how do I move the google search bar on the home screen and is there any way in JB4.2.2 to increase the icon density? The HD resolution of the screen makes the icons look very spaced out and lonely lol.

Great work everybody, really glad I found this forum.

Install a different launcher, like nova or apex. These allow you to increase the grid to 16x16, and offer a load more options to customise the look and feel of the tablet.

Day 3: Wi-Fi disconnects returned. This happened first after half an hour of video streaming, then any few minutes. Reboot brought another half hour, then the same disconnect-game. That was when I lost my nerves and watched the rest of the football game on the nexus7 ;)

That was on a mobile 3gWifi-Router, ZTE MF60 with WPA; will try on my box at home tonight, I suspect the wifi to be picky about routers :-/

Hi!

I have tried the official Cube 4.2.2  beta 2013/04/25.
There is one disturbing thing :

- When you scroll webpages in the browser, brightness changes randomly. Only in the browser, not in other applications, or other browsers like Firefox or Chrome.

I hope this issue will be solved in future versions.

This has been happening every now and then also in the stock 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Not anything new on the 4.2.2 I guess.

Interesting, I think I have been lucky in this respect- my WiFi has never disconnected, or dropped out, on several different routers.

Have you tried disabling auto disconnect? When the tablet is put into standby it switches the wifi off. Go to the wifi settings and click the 3 vertical dots in the upper right, click advanced, and change "Keep WiFi on during sleep" to Always. Mine also has Wi-Fi optimisation checked as well.

As for the brightness issue, I don't seem to have that either. I am using the app Lux Light to look after my brightness settings anyway.

I wonder if I my tablet is from a different batch to you guys? I got mine around the start of April. Is there any way of telling, I remember in the "About" section it said Rev.3, but that has disappeared since upgrading.

As for the camera, tried a few different apps, still got the same shoddy picture. You can't see it properly on imgur, the pictures have been compressed a fair bit, but when looking through a 1080p viewfinder, it looks god awful.

before/after

Anybody else missing battery stats? I get the graph but not the details like screen on time, ect.

Admin, out of curiosity, what changes do you make to init.d and build.prop?

Yup, was my first thought too, though screen was on all the time and no standby took place... Wifi is on always on, tried with and without optimisation.

I have to say that the reconnects are blazing fast, wouldn´t notice it while surfing. Trillian (chat) in fact didn´t notice any of the disconnects, only came to my attention while watching a tv stream cause the stream instantly stops and I can see the wifi-status disappear, reappear and turn blue in under a second. They are not the slightest bit disturbing while using the pad for anything else ;)

Indeed, Camera seems to have gotten a lot worse. but hey, its a beta, if cube keeps that pace of pushing betas all this little things might disappear soon...

Missed the battery details, too.

P.S: Nice little tiger you got there :)

Interesting, I may have the same problem then, just never notice. I run Full!screen on my tablet, which removes the black bars and just overlays the back/home buttons (I seriously recommend this app! It makes the tablet use 100% of the screen and looks awesome ;) ) A result of this is that I only see the notifications/WiFi status when I long press on the home key and open the notifications toolbar.

And yeah, I have a phone for photos, the tablet one is not overly useful, but I would like it working as well as it used to! But yeah, the speed which these updates are coming out is fantastic, never had a device like it!

And cheers, he's the biggest, fattest, grumpiest cat I have ever met, but very photogenic at the same time haha

Btw i have an issue with skype i can't video chat. When i open camera it gets first frame and stuck there. Dunno if it is related to firmware since i didn't try skype on other firmwares. Anyone was able to video chat with skype?

just transferred 2GB of files over WiFi with ES File Explorer (cba going getting the cable) It averaged 600kb/s and took over 90 minutes to copy, and the signal never dropped once. I think my WiFi is alright :) (Belkin router here)

Not tried Skype, for whatever reason I can't login to it even on the PC all of a sudden. Instead I have used Google hangouts, and that works perfectly. It also seems to work better than Skype, uses less resources and handles problems like a slow connection MUCH better (in my opinion!)

Day 4: Tested streaming at home, 3 hours of continouus streaming without a single glitch. damnit, seems to be the mobile router. that´s bad since I almost depend on it @ work...have to try tethering, then :(

but, btt: Anyone with wlan disconnects please try another router and check if it works there ;)

Gonna try WEP on the mobile device just to check...

=======================================

Thanks for doing this ! As I am reading all these replies, I think I am going to

wait until all the initial bugs are sorted out and the 'beta' label is removed.

(nevertheless, huge THANK YOU to all of you that are doing the 'test run'.

This is my first Android so I do not feel that comfortable doing

anything like: fw.max_users=5

Once the official 4.2 JB and the new custom ROM are out, I will install

it instantly as the new multi user mode is something that I am very much

looking  forward to using together with my wife.

Hopefully we will see full 4.2JB versions from Cube soon and then the custom

ROMs to follow.
