Hi All

I just wanted to update regarding the change of my wireless antenna. I did buy a Tyco antenna and soldered the "orange square" to the wire in the Cube.

I had to fiddle a bit with the square placement before I could note an improvement. Now I have wireless in the entire house and internet speed has been improved. Compared to the galaxy tab 2, I am still 10 to 15% lower in terms of reception, but higher than my LG phone. So I guess the range is acceptable now. 

I would like to add that removing the strip will provide a substantial gain. Changing the antenna may help, but it won't help as much. However combining the two provide acceptable performance. My cube works very well. I was able to install flash, stream flash content. Everything works well so far, so I am extremely pleased with the product. The speakers are a bit cheap though, and the 3.5 mm jack is a disaster, but again, manageable.

Where did you place the "orange square" in the cube?

What if you put 2 tyco antennas in it ?

Most of the ones on ebay came as a sset of 2, any do to that ?

To answer your questions:

1- The orange square is to place in the groove left by old antenna. You have to lay a portion flat on battery and bend it into the groove.

2- I have not tried. I fiddled with both antenna with cube open but creating an extra contact with a second one created some interference. So I decided to use only one.

3- Yes, in many laptop or wireless devices, the motherboard or wireless card has two (sometimes even three) spots to solder antennas. The cube has only one. Maybe I didn't try hard enough. But it seems that one should be enough.

I was thinking, and if the problem is that the tablet U30GT2 fails to correctly detect the antenna signal level (as shown in the figure attached - see the red circle)?

maybe not correctly detecting the signal strength, it fails to apply the proper amplification of the signal

maybe not necessary to replace the antenna which undoubtedly applying a better bill solves the problem, but it is still in the software that you can find a solution, even if you do not know how.

thx for replay.

I haven't open the U30GT2 too, when my tablet have all original parts.

so, I was thinking if that parameter of the signal strength shown in the Status page is not related to the module 3G where the tablet U30GT2 does not have it, which is why the strange number. Sorry, I document best if I find a manual for Android 4.2.2

1. when i bought something, i expect it goes well, as its specifications (does not matter if cost 1€, 20.000€)

2. if don´t work properly, i think the seller is responsable. If you buy for example, a car, or a thermostat, and do not work the brake pads, or hose, you must run with that damage?, you have to repair your?, you have to take it to the shop or a plumber on your own?. You have to weld your wifi antenna, you have to suffer the consequences of something you paid?. In my town that is known as "putting the bitch, and pay the bed"

My case with a girl named Lily, cube-tablet.com: she have not said a single truth, and my cube came defective, and I paid 1cubetablet + 2 years warranty extension:

Reading the posts on this thread makes me want to replace the antenna and rip off the aluminum strip. For sure. I wanted to share the fact that I downloaded an app and it helped. I get signal where I didn't use to. Wifi booster with stars around it. Sounds stupid but it worked

I hear you friend, its a shame that about 90% of people who have bought this tablet all have the same issues/faults, I mean, if they sold it with a decent antenna inside for wifi and also fixed the problem with the keyboard acting erratic when the charger is plugged in then it would then pass as being acceptable, BUT, they didn't and haven't, so that makes it no more than a piece of Junk in my opinion !

The biggest worry too is the fact that when you buy these tablets direct from China, the companies over there that sell them, they sell them knowingly that people wont pay for the return cost of the faulty product because even if you send it with advice from paypal or your credit card company, you need to provide proof that it is sent and signed for in china etc and the companies that I have read about from some people on this forum and many other forums too all say that they have tried to send the tablet back and even though they have paid an absolute fortune for tracked and insured return delivery the companies in china still pretend that they have not got the goods when they actually have, because its tracked !

That's scary, and most people do not have a fortune in cash to return the item anyway, for me it would cost me nearly half the price of the full purchase price just to return it :( , I cant afford that amount of money :(

The company I bought mines from that I know a lot of other people also bought theirs from too is this one >>  http://www.mixeshop.com/  I would not recommend that anyone ever uses this company, but there again, all of the other companies that are selling them too all have exactly the same faults with the tablet, so I guess it doesn't really matter where you have bought it from as they are all manufactured in exactly the same place !

So really, that gives us end users no options at all unless you can afford the tracked and insured postage costs to return the goods and even at that you are not guaranteed you will either get a better (working) tablet back or anything at all, it is far too much of a risk to take and the shops in china selling these to us guys in Europe know that it will cost too much money etc for us to send the tablet back, so they are in a no loss situation and we are in the no win situation !

 

That company I bought mines from that I mentioned above do not even have any returns policy on their website, it does not even mention anything about returns in their terms and conditions either (terms of use as they call it), and when you speak to them on Skype about the faults they just ignore you totally and then tell you they are busy and need to leave, how is that for extremely poor customer service ? Ridiculous !

Makes me Really Mad !

 

So now all of us have no option but to sit here with a faulty tablet, either that or start taking it to bits and soldering in new better antennas etc at our own cost and our own risk too !

 

Why cant they simply have a courier such as DHL come and pick the faulty products up and that way they take the price of the return cost for the faulty goods, it is not right or correct that us people, the end users should be put in this position, or forced into this position I should say !

If I would have know all these issues before I bought this Tablet, I definitely would not have bought it AT ALL FROM ANYWHERE !

I have no idea why "an app" made your signal any better as all these tablets right across the internet on all the forums including this forum all have the same problems/faults and software does not fix the problem I can assure you of that, maybe your internet router started to work better or something like that, that is all I can think of because software app's will not fix the wireless signal on this tablet when it is without any doubts a hardware fault.

All these apps do that you are talking about is refresh the wifi connection and that's it, nothing else at all, if you read up on all these type of apps then you will soon see that is all they do, even changing the channel on your wifi router does not make a difference either as I tried that too, it is all a waste of time.

Some people might have a "very slightly" better built tablet than the massive majority of other people that have purchased one of these, but the majority of people all have very very poor weak wifi signals.

At the end of the day there is not even any point in going on and on about this really as its a very well known faulty product that is being sold worldwide and I am still gobsmacked that paypal, credit card companies or trading standard companies have not had the manufacturer closed down yet ! :(

-paid cube-u30gt2 + 2 years warranty extension march09/2013
- delays and bad answers, I received the april08/2013
- Manufacturing defects: dead pixel, no bluetooth, wifi poor
- After 10 days: wifi anymore, wifi antenna fell down, and no wifi no more.
- Again, thousands of emails. In the end, she said to send it to a Shenzheng address.
- I re-sent it on june26/2013. I paid € 38.50 mail,  and Lyli says that's my problem, she don´t return no one cent. My packet reached   Shenzheng july02/2013. But she again lies and says she does not receive .......
- Daily emails........ i said: the track is Shenzheng, but she says: no received. Finally she says received august02/2013
- Today Lily-cube-tablet said: to wait a few more days.

 

1. are manufacturing defects,

2. She have not said a single truth in 1000 emails,

3. I have had the tablet in my hands 21 days, and the rest is worse than being in hell,

4. I paid, and the treatment received there is no right, no right

About 8m from my router, sitting in my garden (1 wall and a window between me and the router) and this is my signal:

No modifications on my tablet, did optimise my router settings (ddwrt software) but that's it.

This is my second cube though as my first did have problems on the graphics part wich ended up in a hardbricked device. Sent it back to my retailer here in the Netherlands for 8,50 euro and he sent me a new one couple days later.

So to be honest I think this device is working great, only bad part I found is slow internal memory wich makes the device not running at it's full power wich is a pitty.

But there are good working cubes going around, that's what I want to say about it.

Android geek owning a S3 with custom rooted fw, mid816 also custom rooted and a Cube U30Gt2 guess what....also custom rooted!
