Ah.  I have just got it working.

After posting, I had one last try with loader 2.10 and used the original recovery shipped with the ROM.  It worked!!!!!!!

Thanks for the ROM. I will give this a good try out.

Regards,

Wayne

Hi all,

I have had a play around with the 3.1 ROM on the Chuwi V88HD.  Overall performance is good and stable. I am very pleased to see that the sound controls are on the navigation bar, which is important for the V88HD (No HW sound buttons)

I have found a few issues:

1) The Smart cover function doesn't work with this ROM.  opening/closing cover has no effect.

2) The battery stats section is missing from the settings menu

3) The Wifi does not wake up and connect after sleep.  The icon shows, but it never connects again.  You have to switch off Wifi and turn on again.

Hope this feedback helps.

Best Regards,

Wayne

Deep sleep issues are always kernel/hardware related. We have seen so much different kernel from Chuwi, non of them can stabilise all hardware in the field.

Maybe for you it's better to use the KK v2.3 build with one of the older V88HD kernel.

Second generation V88

On this forum Oma said "Do not flash this firmware into other tabs then 1st generation V88/V88s!"

On XDA in O.Post there is:

"- KitKat 4.4.2 Stock Edition gen2 loader
This build needs a selinux kernel. Do not use older kernel.
There is one common kernel for both V88/V88S genations and one kernel for V88HD."

So what KK build can I install? 2.3  or 3.1 or none of them? And with which kernel?

Now I am on JB 5.3 kernel bob #419

The KK v2.3 build is for gen1 loader. Latest kernel for 2nd gen V88/V88s is kernel bob #419.

The KK v3.1 build is for gen2 loader. Latest common kernel for 1st & 2nd gen V88/V88S is selinux kernel #153.

Both are stable. Go for v2.3 first.

Thanks for the tip Oma about the V88HD.  One question.  Is it possible to get the sound controls on the navigation bar in v2.3?  This makes such a difference to the V88HD experience.

Thanks,

Wayne

I don't think I have enough code for that. Maybe this app http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=293
can help you.

I do not use usb-audio, so I cannot test anything. However, there are usb-driver (snd_xxx) in the build. Did you tried something so far?

I only contacted the usbeffects developer about this and he said that "Most Rockchip-based Android devices do not support USB audio, and this is the classic symptom -- it powers the device up, we can talk to it and configure it, but the Audio transfers never complete, or just have all zeros in the buffer."

Hi all,

Just some more feedback.  I have been using the v3.1 on my V88HD for a while.  I would recommend this version (despite no smart cover suppoer and wifi sleep issues), as this is extremely stable and responsive.  Leaving the Wifi to always on removes the wifi sleep issue and still lasts for many days on standby.

I am not sure if this is related to this kernel or not , but the Wifi is very poor on this tablet.  If near the router all works well, but if the signal is not at full strength it starts to fail - i am talking a few meters.

Anyone else see poor Wifi?

Thanks,

Wayne
