Thanks for your reply.

I was trying to watch an HD version of captain america the winter soldier via XBMC.

What I noticed is that the tablet plays HD when used by itself perfectly. However when it is connected to my TV via HDMI I get some stuttering. After messing around with some settings using the screen resolution app in this rom, I found that If I make the resolution say 720p then it will play on my TV. The problem is that fiddling with the resolution app I have to sometimes recover a backup as a (Android Component) gui setting error keeps coming up in a black box. So it’s a PITA.

Basically this tablet cannot push the native resolution (2048 x 1536) at the same time as pushing HD content over HDMI, it kills the CPU, Lowering the resolution on the tablet works but sometimes creates additional issues.

Well, if you are feeling very brave and you feel up to trying some overclocked kernels, I can upload some (you'd better be expert at debricking if something goes wrong).

Hi,

3 thoughts..

1. @sammiii Don't use XBMC for watching HD content, the HW Acceleration do not work in a really good way. Try MX Player or BS Player.

2. @DarthJabba, if you have sources for an working OC kernel, I would be glad to find it published.

3. Brick your tablet is possible, unbricking it can be unpossible! If you brick it with a wrong loader, unbrick is possible. If the wrong kernel flash a firmware to a device, and the stock kernel does not correct it thru flashing the original firmware, the tablet is bricked and you can not recover it. Be warned, never flash a kernel that is not for your tablet, it could be that you never can unbrick it! Sorry @DarthJabba, but you can brick it and you have no way back, even if you know how to short the PIN's of the NAND to get in Mask Rom Mode.

Conclusion..

@sammiii, don't do it, knowledge of unbricking might not help you. If you try it with my warning, don't ask for help if it is bricked. I have made in the past years to many mistakes and I don't think that DarthJabba could help you, if you flashed the wrong firmware in the... e.g. touchscreen.

Just my few cents

I don't have any kernel sources. The overclocking is done on the ROM's binary kernels, using rkpatchomatic, etc. The overclocked kernels are in CWM install zip format, and have to be flashed from CWM/TWRP Recovery. The mods only install the patched kernel, and so there is nothing with touchscreen, etc.

As long as you can boot to CWM Recovery, you will be able to replace a kernel that is not stable with the stock kernel, which is also available in the same CWM install zip format.

@DarthJabba

ahh, the rkpatchomatic. I know it and tried a few times, sometimes it works, sometimes not. The reason is that you can patch the cpu/gpu tables, but on the pwm there could be implemented a hardcoded limit that is not patched. Next problem with patchomatic is, that you can not extend the frequency table. You loose steps for the cpu. If I make a OC Kernel I extend the table from 5 entries to 7 entries, as an example.

You are wrong with the touchscreen, some kernel have a firmware file for the touch build in, that is flashed if the kernel starts up. If this firmware is wrong, you can brick the tablet. RK sometimes do not include the firmware in the stock kernel, and then it's over. So it does not help you to have a booting CWM. Wrong firmware in the touchscreen, and your tablet is only good for serving drinks on it. I bricked in my early days a Odys Q/Kju: in such a way, so believe me it's possible.

If you want, I can show you the parts in a kernel source that are patched from rkpatchomatic, and the parts that are not patched.. please feel free to ask me.. no problem and I can show you additional the program procedures of the kernel for firmware flashes of touchscreen drivers too.

My advice, never flash a unknown kernel that is not for your device, except you don't have a problem in loosing the tablet.

I absolutely agree. I only ever flash (and patch) stock kernels extracted from binary firmware for the specific device - not a clone, or any other thing.

Hello sir,

After a little panic I got this installed on my CT9716. When it runs its great, but it crashes about every 2-5 mins depending on how hard I am pushing it.  I hate to have go back to 4.2.2.  Any ideas on how I can diagnose the problem? If not can someone suggest a good 4.2.2 ROM for this slate then?

TIA

Zed

  1. What exactly do you mean by saying that it crashes?
  2. What apps are you running?

Fresh install basically. just setting the tablet it shuts down.  I notice that when it boots it makes to quick tapping sounds from inside the tab. It never did that before.

I did have a bit of trouble with the loader version part. It seemed to be originally on version 2 even though it was native Jelly Bean at that point. So I flashed the ROM. But it didn't seem to want to boot. So I changed it to loader version 1 (I think).  Then I flashed the Room but it kept failing the check test after it had written to the NAND. So I loaded the V 2 of the loader again and it was fine.  I think I was to impatient the first time and if I would have waited it would have booted.

But from what i have to know JellyBean 4.2.2 should only be version 1 loader.  I don't see how my tablet ever worked if it was with V2.

Thanks for any guidance.

Update: If I just boot and unlock the screen and let it sit it will crash (power off) sometims with that same audible sound. Almost like it it is overclocking crash. I have not put anything like that on it.

I think you have a (partially) failed upgrade.

The flash tools may report success. But are they flashing the right thing?

For example, do you have the right loader, and is your data partition big enough? Which recovery version do you have - stock, CWM, TWRP, or something else?

Hey there.  I have tried this rom and it is working great so far.  However, I am trying to get a USB hub to work on the tablet and it doesn't seem to want to work on any rom I've tried.  This one says that its enabled, but I am still unable to get it to work.  Do you have any advice for me to get it operating?  Other than that, this rom is way better than stock.  Thanks for putting your time and energy into it.  Later.
