Though you said putting KitKat on the Hudl is impossible, in this topic:
I've seen a video of a Tesco Hudl running KitKat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPAtdpro2utc
Â
So is it really impossible?
Hello,
Youtube says "This video is unavailable." at the URL you posted, can you double check the link ? Where you did see that video ?
Cheers.

The second link works.
According to Wikipedia:
The Tesco Hudl comes with a number of different model numbers, including:
   HT7B16S3
   HT7D16S3
   HT7P16S3
HT7R16S3The difference between these models is unclear.
The video dates from early 2014 while the Hudl started to sell in Q3-2013. It could well be that the device appearing in the video is an particular model with a specific firmware, maybe you could question Tesco on that.
The discussions on Facebook are not really showing good signs of a coming KitKat update.
As for the option of an unofficial/independent firmware, Oma's answer in post #15 summarize well the difficulties.
Cheers.

I googled info from the kernel (root@zsq-rk #16) and found that it was probably made by this person "zsq@rock-chips.com", who seems to work for rockchip AND has also collaborated with you guys at arctablets: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com:8080/opendev/kernel_rockchip/commit/f4b9b8d34c0c967d7d6bf614d06df25ced1a5cde.patch
Do you reckon you can ask him for the files he used? Im already trying with the manufacturer.
Hello,
I don't know if the link you posted is a patch that Rockchip published publicly or if it results from discussions with Crew RKTablets. OMA may be able to give some details when he stops by on this topic.
The normal route to ask for device updates is to turn to the manufacturer. Rockchip may have helped Tesco to build and customize the Hudl kernel and Android system but from what I understand Rockchip rarely answers to requests from individuals.
Cheers.

I'm back, the Samsung i9300 and n7100 phones both run KitKat and they use bcm4334, the i9300 Kit Kat source code is available here: opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=i9300 on page 2, and n7100 source code is here: opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=n7100, as for the kernel can that not be created, or borrowed from a device similar enough to the hudl?

I did a bit more research, i believe the video of the Hudl running 4.4 KitKat was filmed in Hungary, the Hungarian site that filmed and posted it mentioned a store called Auchan, which sells the Qilive97r which is a rebranded Aoson M30q, both which are related the Archos 97b, and I think the tab is running modified software from any of these tabs, created in a Frankenstein way and shoved in... maybe to demonstrate what can be created for the Hungarian market... this is what I believe.

Curious. Open a terminal and type:
cat /sys/class/rkwifi/chip
What is the result? Â Â
