ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install for RK3066 and RK3188 -- TWRP/CWM Flash-Tool and root for RK3288
Please donate to support OMA and CrewRKTablets firmware work, thank you !

Hello everybody and Oma,
The victim:
Quadcore Tablet sold in Australia under Bauhn/Aldi brand. No hope to get an updated Android, especially Kitkat.
Specs:
Original OS: Android 4.2.2
CPU: RK3188T
RAM: 1GB DDR3
FLASH: 16GB
Screen: 9.7 inches, 1024x768
The device has no Volume keys, only Power, Back and Reset pin.
desperately tried to flash a kitkat designed for similar models - no effect. The device doesn't boot at all.
As I am familiar a bit with various RK tools, I've got back to original firmware and I can get dmesg and logs.
In addition, here is "official" 4.2.2 update for that model - http://public.tempoaustralia.com/fw/at-hk97/
The update is a bit dodgy as there is not working the USB Storage mode.
May I ask Oma to try to build the kitkat firmware fot this tablet ? Plenty desperate australians would cry
thank you.

Ok, here is the kernel: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1724
Wifi chip is AP6210, which is more typical for sticks. So, we need some testing ...
... try the following builds, only change the kernel:
- http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1685
- http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1642
- http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1688, additionally install fix when first boot into CWM: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1569
Instructions are included in the download pack. To start the tab into flash-modus you most likely need to hold Power (or Back) and press Reset.

Oma,
thank you very much for so rapid response.
Definitely will try to flash mentioned kernel/ROMs and test tonigh at home.
Do I need to re-flash the loader? Current one is 1.24
Btw, to put the device to flashable state I have to power off, then press Power and Back together and hold for 3 seconds.

Hello Oma
Unbelievable, great job!
Tried first 2 ROMs you've provided with kernel.
What I did with each of ROM:
1. Built update.img with replaced kernel provided by you.
2. flashed the update.img
3. when booted to recovery, applied NAND format and Device Specific ZIP provided by you
4. Did FULL format in NAND format.zip utility
5. Choosen "YES" for "Fix SU" when rebooting
Good news:
at least the ROM is booting to desktop!! Yohooo!! Even with original Bauhn logo, LOL.
Working:
Touchscreen
Sound
Both Cameras
Internal Flash Storage
Bad news:
Not working:
WIFI - at all, freezes when choosing "ON"
Bluetooth - continuously trying to turn it on
Dmesg and Logcat attached.
Will try V88 Loader V2 ROM and Original Kitkat for 3188 with your kernel.
UPD: regretfully, no WIFI/BT with any ROM tried. Maybe something is wrong in the kernel?

small update...
tried everything I could find - no success with wifi/bt
it seems that MTK module compiled-in brakes 6210 somehow or something else.
Oma, is it possible to get a .config file for the kernel you've provided? I'd like to try to play with compilation by myself.
Thank you.

This is your stock kernel. I don't know nothing about it.
Kernel sources should be provided by the producer of the tab.

Some news.
1. WIFI fixed. Got it after carefull inspection of init....rc on original boot.img and Kitkat's one.
2. Bluetooth - still working, 99% it is also sitting somewhere in boot.img
3. Rotation - have no idea atm, why it's not working properly.
The rotation (maybe g-sensor or accelerometer related) is working 90 degrees to the left, always. I.e. if the tablet is oriented horizontally (landscape) the screen rotates left to vertical (portrait) and vice versa.
In addition, bottom buttons bar in portrait orientation is too wide and Volume+ is not visible.
Does anybody know where I have to look to change some settings? Any advise appretiated.
thank you

Dear Elias,
the issue with rotation can be solved by changing your build.prop
Look for "ro.sf.hwrotation=xxx" in your build.prop and try other values like 0 (zero) or 90 or 180 or 270. (i list here all 4 since i dont know the value which you already have inside).
You will see the effect of your change directly after saving the change and reboot.
One negative side effect can be that the bootanimation can appear with wrong orientiation, but one of the values above should make your tab useable when working, without rotation locking.

Rock293031, thanks a lot and shame on me. I should check original build.prop before raising an issue.
Original one has:
ro.sf.fakerotation=true
ro.sf.hwrotation=270
So, I copied it to Kitkat and rotation works like a charm! Thanks a lot once again.
Now have to fix Bluetooth, working with it, and .. LOL, camera rotation is wrong for both front and rear and the picture stretched a lot.

Hello Rock293031,
To enable WIFI:
I've looked into init.rk30board.rc on Kitkat ROM and removed all entries regarding wpa_supplicant and other supplicants, like p2p_ and psp_.
Then I've commented that string in init.rk30board.rc:
#import init.connectivity.rc
to disable all possible mess came with ROM.
Then added, before "on post-fs":
