Hi,
for zRam support you need a custom kernel, cause this feature has to be activated in the kernel. Stock Kernel does not have activated this, so you don't need the zRam patch.
I found that PimpMyRom has a zRam option, I guess this has that patch?

Moved topic to correct forum.
sorry Boss! I will not post new threads for same device again.
I still have a question for you though

where can I learn how to make more compatible options for this CMP741D so that I can try your homebrews with it?
thanks

zRam support has 2 sides. One is an android part (that's the patch), second one is a kernel part. The kernel part has to be activated at compile time of the kernel. Stock kernel does not have this activated, so android part will not work as far as I know.
sorry Boss! I will not post new threads for same device again.
Hey, all is fine. Your topic was only in the wrong section of the forum. I moved it at this place, so people can find the information they need faster. And I merged both topics, cause they both regard to the same problem. This has nothing todo with same device, only same issue.
Regarding homebrew kernel. This is not an easy process. You can only build an own homebrew kernel, cause you can not change things from android that are in the kernel buildin, like the drivers needed for booting.
If you don't know the building process for kernel right now, it will be much work to learn it. Don't know how much experience you have in cross compiling.

no I dont know the building process nor have experience with cross compiling. can you direct me where to start because I would like to learn.
I would also like to ask you what things would you do if you had just acquired this tablet? I mean you probably would have no use for it due to much better hardware but say that this was newest device. since you have more knowledge about these things, this would help me determine a good direction to go.
and if you or anyone else reading just feels like making more CMP741D compatible roms, that is why I posted more info. I'd love to but gotta learn how first, may take me long time since I dont have lots of it to spare for this.

As a starting point you can look at this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2152819
The steps 1-3 are the one you need, step 4 specific to other hardware.
In step 1 you have to get the sources for a RK2918 based device, not the HTC or Samsung stuff.
But this is only a starting point, not complete guide.
The following users say thank you to JochenKauz for this useful post:

found here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1291 " - PhabletUI [v1.4] / TabletUI [v1.5]"
I download and install "Build for Odys Loox v1.5" and replaced kernel.img with CMP741D kernel. this is a 7" tablet.
this works but has persistent error pop-up message: "Unfourtunately, System-UI has stopped" on this pop-up to press "OK" is only option. after pressing OK it immediately pops up again. is there a solution for this? everything else seems to work but I only have one second to press anything else between error pop-ups.
should I try " Beta Build for Odys Loox v1.4" (for -Phablet) or " Test Build v1.3" next?
thanks

hi Oma, thanks for quick reply, I was about to try RK29: JB 4.2.2 Multi-Window (this one looks like it will be really good, I hope it works on this device) next while waiting on reply. I think I did do a clean install but Im not sure. can you clarify "clean install" for me? I did do eraseIDB first but unsure about clean install.

report: RK29: AOSP 4.2.2_r1 Testbuild v1.5
found here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1291
I download and install "Build for Odys Loox v1.5" and replaced kernel.img with CMP741D kernel. I use v1.5 because this is tablet.
this works but has persistent error pop-up message: "Unfortunately, System-UI has stopped" on this pop-up to press "OK" is only option. after pressing OK it immediately pops up again.
I mis posted again about this here first:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/crewrktablets-rk2918-entwicklung-customroms-development-croms/report-rk29-aosp-4-2-2_r1-testbuild-v1-5-system-ui-error/

report: RK29: JB 4.2.2 Multi-Window http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1661
this works but auto-rotate does not function except occasionally it rotates unexpectedly then does not rotate back to correct position. it favors locking in portrait position. also initial setting is 160dpi but can be changed with LCD density or pimpmyrom apps.
I hope to get the auto-rotate issue solved because I really like the multi window feature.
more info about this one as I find more, I have only used it briefly so far.

report: Oma Odys Loox JB 4.1.1 V1.3a http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=898
is an unlisted and most feature packed version of Oma's Odys Loox JB 4.1.1 series.
seem to not work until after replacing loader v2.30 with v2.28 from Oma Odys Loox JB 4.1.1 V1.2.2a but I may have not waited long enough on initial first boot (takes much longer than others)
auto-rotate is not functioning correctly, portrait mode only so far. has touch panel calibration feature available in settings that when used it gives message "failed to calibrate" then after this the navigation bar auto-rotates to landscape but when you press anything it instantly goes back into portrait mode I havnt found a way to correct it to stay in landscape mode yet.

whats the fun in that? gotta learn somehow.
actually, your advice is well taken and that is what I will stick with on my good tab but I have another "parts" tablet for almost nothing because it was "bricked" so I dont mind (actually enjoy) experimenting on it.
what is the main differences of ASOP & CM? and why these two different versions? I was surprised by your reply, do you not want more input on these for further developments?
somewhere on crewrktablets.arctablet.com I read that one version of yours has USB Hub support and now I cant find it again, do you recall which it was? I'll keep looking also but this would greatly improve my tabs capabilities.
the Ubuntu Touch version is most appealing to me right now but the full Ubuntu even more so but that is beyond my knowledge at this point however that is the direction I try to head toward and from there hopefully other specific Linux on these devices. (ArchLinux, Debian, etc.)
my goal is to learn more in these areas (Linux) I create hybrid windows that boot from any storage media & network on most hardware (still working on ARM support for XP & 7) and automatically loads drivers to have a "universal" OS. I also like React OS's model for future goals in the windows based arena.
most developments like this are @reboot.pro site for those who may be interested.
but about those ASOP & CM diffs?
thanks

report: the "sensor fix 4" here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1873 has worked to solve the auto-rotate issues for all other versions that have had that issue on this tab. it is for CM10 but worked in ASOP and JB to fix auto-rotate issues.
USB Hub support is on JochenKauz's homebrew kernel: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=2575
I tried this kernel, the colors were reversed and the lower portion of the screen was not showing even after applying the 120 fix. when I tested the USB hub with a usb mouse attached the mouse action was very choppy and hard to use. next I plugged in a 4gb USB Flashdrive to the hub but I could not navigate to the settings>storage to check it before it rebooted.
I have no way to know if the usb hub support was the problem or if it was the homebrew kernel made for Odys_Loox system.
this was the first time Ive tried a kernel other than the one specific to this device, but I knew that the Odys_Loox is very close in terms of hardware but there would still be some risks and since the tab is a realy cheap backup I got because the touch screen doesnt work I was willing to take the risk. my battery didnt blow up and I reflashed back to proper kernel and everything is OK.
can anyone else comment on how well the USB Hub support is working on other devices that the homebrew kernel is for?
