hello everyone,
I have a "Forgotten Tab" it is Craig CMP741D it is my first ARM Device. it was originally equipped with ICS and no recovery.
I start here to upgrade – Forgotten Tabs Project: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=152 and try Odys Loox rocks with Jelly Bean! – World Edition with success! (Thanks Oma)
next I find Primary builds for Odys Loox: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=277
I try Oma JB v1.2.3 Pimp My Rom Edition which is also success.
next I try Oma ICS v1.3 Final Edition but failure for me. it seems to load OK but only black screen that responds to touch input to wake from sleep function but that is all. I tried this twice but I will try once more to make sure I install correctly then report again here my results.
next I try Odys Loox rocks with Ubuntu Touch Preview http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1103 but failure because the CWM included does not support touchscreen for this device so it boots into CWM but has no way to navigate menu. currently I continue to work on this. see here: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/crewrktablets-rk2918-entwicklung-customroms-development-croms/rocks-with-ubuntu-on-cmp741d-cwm-touch-not-work/
I plan to try each of the Primary builds for Odys Loox: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=277 and will report back here my results.
Ultimately I want to find a way to dualboot this device with Full Ubuntu [Nativo]Ubuntu 12.10 para rk2918[version de testeo] http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?s=9972dab76d0843e8ebdbf603bfc433bd&t=508887 I have limited time to study about it and my knowledge is limited in this area so it may take a long while but I will report what I can about this at some point.
hope this helps someone else with this device. if you have questions about it I will answer if I can.

As far as I know not possible due to missing adequate loader.

I try to find info how to modify loader later, maybe it is possible?
currently I am running build # "Oma JB v1.2 26.00.2012" since you suggest CM10.1 release I will try that next but first I have these four questions:
1) should I use everything in your CM10 v1.2 Beta Build 7z package except replace kernel.img with CMP741D Kernel.img?
2) and should I also keep the recovery.img that is working now or use the one in CM10 package?
3) is Oma_intSD_to_NAND_OTG_fix.zip compatible with CM10 v1.2 BETA or is suitable replacement available? because I like to have ability to swap out external sdcards.
4) would Oma_JB_v1.2_akkufix_2.zip & ModelFix-CMP741Dv120.zip be needed or is there a suitable replacement for them?
thanks

You will find the release here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1873
Use the pack as it is. Just replace the kernel.

great, I will try that next.
I did go ahead and try the CM10.1 Beta here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=165 with only kernel change but I got black screen after your logo with this one.
next I tried CM9 v1.3 Final Edition here: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=71 and it is working for me but no intSD_to_NAND tried with it. but it works!
thanks.

This is working good so far! has sound, touch, & wifi. I have not thoroughly tested it but I will and report back if I find anything odd.
I have a report for you Oma about your CWM versions on CMP741D.
Oma CWM for Genio - v5.5.0.4 Touch version seems to work well on this except usb mouse I have does not work with this one.
CWMR Touch v5.5.0.4 Beta 15 version the selection arrows are not working, the usb mouse does work with this one so it is most useful on a CMP741D with bad touch screen that I got for very cheap to use for testing.
is it possible to make arrows function in beta version and if you have any other CWM versions I can test for you on this tab. I am happy to test other stuff for you on this one also if needed just let me know.
one question I have now since becoming more familiar with rockchiptool is: is it possible to permanently brick this tablet if I try many unknown Odys_Loox versions you have made by changing kernel with CMP741D one to see what else works on it?
once I get the hang of this stuff on this RK2918 I plan to purchase latest rockchip device and try more stuff but dual booting is what I would like to have available most.
thanks

In short, yes it is possible that you brick the device.
Normally it should not happen, if you always use the right kernel and the correct bootloader (not boot.img), but there is a minimum risk that the NAND flash get corrupted and then it could die. This happened to a few Odys NEO X7 users, cause the NAND flash was of a really poor quality and was defect after a few flashes.

I have already made it a soft brick but with rktools it is not a problem but my knowledge with these devices is limited so I try not to make it a hard brick .
I see now "RK29: Odys Loox rocks with zRAM ;-)" but it is not clear about installation. it has "Loox zRAM kernel" file also, is this required or optional? Im not sure how or if I should try this.
I see lots of great work on http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com but instructions/directions are not available on these pages. it is for more experienced users. I am not a noob in other tech areas but here I am so Im trying to find my way.
edit: this one "Newest CM 10.1/AOSP 4.2.2 Homebrew Kernel for RK2918 based Tablets" has NTFS support! I would like that, should I try it?

Hi,
for zRam support you need a custom kernel, cause this feature has to be activated in the kernel. Stock Kernel does not have activated this, so you don't need the zRam patch.
Never try a kernel that is not made for your tablet, except you want to raise the risk of a brick.
We have activated NTFS Support in our kernel, but you can also use one of our loadable modules for that. This is a question for Oma7144, he is the master of the roms.

hi JochenKauz, I once have tried Odys_Loox kernel when trying to get Ubuntu touch working because this kernel seems very similar to CMP741D because I did not better, I was lucky.. it didnt work but it didnt brick hard either.
where can I learn how to make more compatible options for this CMP741D so that I can try your homebrews with it?

using CM10 v1.2 on CMP741D, the DPI is slightly larger than normal. I installed Mastermind278's ModelFix-CMP741Dv120.zip: http://d-h.st/8q7 it works on CM10 v1.2 but I occasionally see a brief flash of red outline on exterior edges of screen now.
is there a better 120dpi fix for CM10 v1.2?
edit: I just realized that CM10 v1.2 comes with LCD Density Modder installed.. that should do the same DPI correction.
I dont know how to uninstall the .zip fix so I can test (how to uninstall .zips that were installed from recovery?) I will restore previous version and try LCD Density modder now.
