Hi all. Not an Arnova owner yet but almost about to buy a 9 G2 as a I really like the 4:3 screen layout.

In the firmware release post Morka says that the release includes "Adding a module (openvpn, iptables ect ..)". Does this mean that iptables is supported in this firmware and therefore it should be possible to run a firewall app (e.g. Droidwall) to manipulate these tables. Or is the required kernel support still missing?!!

This lack of firewall capability is the one thing that puts me off purchasing any Arnova tablet and it would make my day to know that this work on the G2s.

So, is there anyone using this firmware release who has been able to install Droidwall and configure it without getting an iptables missing error message?

Many thanks,

Jane

Hello Jane,

Unfortunately, the Arnova G2 are known of missing iptables feature. There has been quite a few discussions about that already:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/?search=1&forum=all&value=iptables&type=1&include=3

Bottom line: there is iptables support on some models (I'm not sure it's the case for all), but none of them have the necessary netfilter support in the kernel. I have not seen a successfully implementation for that on Arnova G2. The kernel sources not being released by the manufacturer surely does not help Confused

There's a new (unofficial) Android 4.0 ICS firmware for the 9G2 now available, I'll check if things have changed...

Cheers.

Ok, thanks for the prompt reply admin.

Would be interested to know if anything's changed in the ICS firmware (won't hold my breath though!).

What's with the lack of netfilter support in the kernels of so many Android devices? It does seem to impact the budget tablets particularly but there can't be any cost issues for the manufacturers over this. Strange.

Thanks again,

Jane

How can i keep the home/back button on the screen while playing games? I didn't found any options for this.

It's pretty much stupid that i need to reboot the device to quit a game.

I'm using 1.15 on my 10G2.

Other users reported the same problem on their 7b G2, it does not seem there is a fix at the moment.

You'll need to flash back the stock firmware or a custom firmware with Google Play.

Official Arnova G2 firmwares are all listed here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/arnova-firmwares-updates/

Custom firmware, you can use that one: http://www.arctablet.com/kitchen/firmwares/admin-20120520-202002-firmware.zip that I just built from our firmware kitchen.

No, MorkaMod disappear! I'm waiting for make tests with MorkaMod 1.16 on my Arnova 10 g2 (the actual firmware 1.16 in test freeze at bootstrap) but.... nothing. Morkamod don't responding! Don't replay, don't write... nothing. What's happens? Where is Morkamod? Someone knows he in person? Have problem with his health or family? ... Someone have some news?

Morka Mod 1.16 project is deleted (What a pitty... Morka mod 1.15 is the best firmware for Arnova 10 G2)?

Unless you have an Arnova model that had 1.15 ext3 released (I think only the Arnova 8 G2?) 1.14 is better, just because it is in ext3. That makes it so you have full access to everything, and can fully enjoy root access 🙂
