If there are no other changes than the boot picture, flashing only boot.img should do.

When the system has booted, you'll also need to delete the file /system/media/bootanimation.zip, to remove the animated part of this masterpiece. You can use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (free) to achieve this.

the boot.img file should replace an existing file from the archive. Look for it, probably in an image directory.

Replace the file then just flash the firmware. You can eventually untick all images except the boot, so it will be the only one to be flashed.

Don't forget to delete the bootanimation.zip per  post #18.

I am doing something a little different than everyone else otherwise I would be just like everyone else!  I am not.

was this line actually meant seriously? It sounds like a line out of a Justin Beber track. Great justification for stuffing your advert onto people faces - better developers care less about self promotion

Bob has recently mentioned (about his 2.1 custom Rom for Arnova) that in order the change the initial wording when the tablet boots up (FreakTab.com instead of Arnova) and then the billboard screen, the bootloader image file has to be hex edited. (I am talking about the two screens that appear before bootanimation.zip)

I have looked at your instructions and I want to know if you can offer any guidance on how to change these screens?

Kind Regards

Annie

Hello Annie,

You will needed to edit the firmware boot image (unpack boot.img, make the changes, repack it).

The link I gave in post #14 (dated from March, 1st) that points to our WIKI gives most of the details related to the boot logo, I believe it's still valid but there may be some file name changes for the logo.

Cheers.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I have had a look at it and as I am new to linux, I am scared to unpack and re-pack boot image in case i corrupt something and brick my tablet. I will have a go at it and see what I can do.

In the meantime I was wondering if there is anyone on this forum who has already modified the boot.img from Bob's 2.1 custom firmware and has removed the initial two screens?

Please understand that I really love what Bob has done but I just find it a bit odd to start my tablet with 'freaktab.com' blasted in my face....

Kind Regards

Annie

I totally understand, moreover having a non "stock" boot logo can be a problem in case the tablet gets bricked, doesn't boot after the boot logo and is in a situation it cannot be fixed with Rockchip flasher (that's rare but it happens, mostly with damaged flash memory). Sending back a tablet to repair with a modified boot logo might be a problem as it's a proof it has been flashed with a custom firmware, which is usually recognized as voiding the warranty.

I'll try to add more info about the unpack & pack process for boot.img these next days, so you can do it on your own if you have some Linux experience, that's about all I can do as I don't want to publicly provide a modified boot image.

Cheers.

Thank you again for your prompt response. I understand what you are saying and would be grateful for some more instructions.

By the way, I should have said that Bob advised I should hex edit kernel file as he has put these two screens in the kernel. Here is what Bob said to me on freaktab: (It's in the kernel! I had to edit it with a hex editor. It is in RAW code format. It is not easy to change. If you want to have a go at it, the image in the kernel starts at 0x1dfac and ends at 0xb1fab - Bob)

Thanks again and I look forward to your instructions in due course.

Regards

Annie

Good luck with that!

I will just make this comment.  If you flash and kill your tablet, I do not believe it is ethical to try and return it for a refund!  My boot screen or not!  All this does is raises costs to all of us and reduces support as no manufacturer wants to deal with this!  So my boot screen or not, you bought it, your broke it, you should pay for it.  I would not condone any less!

FYI Annie is not talking about the boot screen either.  My ROM is truely custom right down to the kernel mods I have made (even without source code).

However Annie, if you like my ROM a 1 second message is a problem?  I respectfully ask you not to use my ROM if you don't like it.  Or if you want it changed how about asking me directly instead of asking someone else to hack at my ROM. Learn linux and I will tell you exactly how to change it to whatever you like. I have nothing to hide but you need to learn how to do things yourself if you want to change things from what other people make as custom. Thats what custom is!  You want to make your own custom ROM?  You need to learn to do it. Many of other peoples ROMs have custom changes under the covers you don't even know about!  At least mine are well explained and visable like it or not.  Again it is my custom ROM.  But again... I will tell you how to change it if your willing to learn.

Now the man is scarred 🙂
Of course there is also the option where you can provide two boot.img, one with the personalized logo and one with the stock and in this way; you are a little closer to the user 
You can leave the signature anyway in the boot.img in a more discrete way if you want to personalize your work.

I have offered this to anyone and will do it....  I have done it more than once and for companies using my ROMs without paying me a dime! I might add.... BMW is using my custom ROMs.  No pay and I gave them what they wanted.

Scarred?  You kidding?  Really?  Do you know anyone else that has EXT4 and CWM on the 10b G3 ICS ROM?

Scarred... Yea OK....  If you think that is it.  Keep watching my friend Cool  I do this for a hobby and love it so there is no reason to be scared!

Again... My point is I customize the ROMs the way I like. They are my custom ROM's just like Kasty has his custom ROMs.  His idea is not to change the boot screens etc.  Thats fine. To each his own.

But.... You go download just about any ROM from XDA, SlateDroid, etc... they almost all have custom boot screens and animations!  To each his own.  Look at it like an artists signature like it or not.  If you want what the artist is giving, sometimes you live with the artists signature on the work! Or get a paint brush and change it yourself!

So this guy wants the performance from my ROM yet doesnt like the signature.  Fine... He should go figure out how to remove it and make his own version rather than beg other people to modify someone elses work! I find it offensive when someone goes running around trying to get someone else to MOD a custom ROM without even directly talking to the author!  This is what I call the "Entitled Generation".  Don't spend the time trying to figure it out.  Just keep asking someone until you "get what you want".  For shame honestly.

Glob, I do not know if you do custom ROMs? But if you do, I would find it strange if you were not offended by that kind of tactic?

To each his own however.

To be honest I am suprised Admin is even letting this thread run here.  It has nothing to do with his forum, his ROMs, or supporting his direct users for his ROMs.  I doubt seriously he is going to MOD one of my ROMs for someone that does not like something as trivial as a bootscreen.... Then for sure I don't expect he would host my ROM here for download with just a bootscreen change!  Admin has more scruples than that and we have discussed it before.

Again however let me point out.  What Annie is asking for is NOT a bootscreen change!  It's my custom kernel I modified by hand, without sources, to get more performance than could be achieved otherwise.

I am using Ext4 on the 7c g3
I do custom roms only for the 7C generation; my knowledge is limited to this family of devices.
I have a different approach on the android, i do not mind if others use my work, as long as i am mentioned and my work is not used to make money.
We only give help to a person that asked for it by pointing him in the right direction (you would have done the same)
When i go to xda forum for example, nobody helps me, for the 7c g3 i did everything alone, a cwm, a modified boot image, a back ‘up of the stock rom, and now a new rom with Google play
I think you should speak with the man that asked the modified boot image via private message, help him, and solve this, because in the end it is your rom and your boot image.
