Arnova 9 G3 is an Android 4.0 ICS tablet featuring a great 9.7" multipoint IPS screen, Rockchip RK2918 CPU and 1 Gb of RAM. The lack of Google Play (formerly Android Market) support is one the biggest inconvenience on the device, we are happy to bring you a solution.
Thanks to retsil member on our forum, for making a dump of this device's firmware. We have modified this firmware to add Google Play/Android Market, Google Face Unlock support, full root and write access to /system.

Arnova 9 G3 custom firmware features

  • Clean installation of latest Google Play Store 3.5.15, no more missing apps (Twitter, Facebook...)
  • Full root support with writable /system partition
  • Root access is controled thru SuperSU.apk v0.89 (free version), a cool upgrade to SuperUser.apk by XDA developer Chainfire
  • Added Face Unlock feature from XDA dev
  • Face unlock works reasonnably well considering the relatively low camera resolution (0.3 Mpix)

Quick demo of the Face Unlock feature on an Arnova 9 G2 running a custom ICS firmware.

    Install procedure

Before starting, please make sure you backup all your existing apps, data and files that are on your tablet as they will be erased during the flash process. Also make sure your device is connected to the power.

    Step 1. Download

Kasty custom firmware download (version 0.4)

    kasty-arn9g3-40-04.zip

This firmware is specific to the Arnova 9 G3 and should not be installed on other devices.

WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.

THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE IS USED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

WE RECOMMEND TO FLASH THIS FIRMWARE ONLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO RESCUE A BRICKED DEVICE USING ROCKCHIP FLASHING TOOLS.

Download the file above and extract the custom firmware image (update.img) on your computer hard drive.

Step 2. Install and run Rockchip Flashing tool

Please follow the Rockchip Flashing tool procedure: that will explain how to download Rockchip flashing tool, unpack the archive, put your device into flashing mode and flash the…

    Well it's listed on amazon.com with a "1 to 2 months" delivery.

There are other Arnova G3 available in the USA, so the tablet release times on the market are probably different across countries/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdrritories.

    can't enter flashing mode!

Am I missing something - I've downloaded the custom firmware and the flashing tool.

However the instructions for 9 g3 here http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/flashing-arnova-g2-rockchip-2918-rockchip-flashing-tool/ say press the menu and the reset. However this model doesnt have a menu button - the buttons are on/off, volume rocker +and- and home.

OK, I seem to have got in to the flashing mode by pressing the home rather than the menu button specified in the instructions, and am now looking for a usb driver in windows 7 (64 bit version). the pc doesnt find a suitable driver, so I am trying to add using the add hardware wizard.

Clicking on the Have Disk option and choosing the rockusb.inf file doesn't list any options. Any ideas?

not sure about 64 bit win 7 but on 32 bit open device manager (my computer, right click and select manage, then find device manager) right click the unknown device, click updat driver , click find driver on computer (cant remember the exact words) and then find the folder where you unzipped the driver files

    Good afternoon all Smile

Try as I can, I cannot get my 9 G3 to go to the flashing mode. Is there anyone who is able to assist me? I have downloaded all the required software and that part of it seems fine but all my attempts to enter flash mode by pressing the reset button and "home" key are not working.

    Thanks in advance.

Try holding the home button for a few secs, push the reset at the same time for a few secs, then release that followed by releasing the home button.

While connected by usb to my windows 7 laptop, I got a low duh duh sound and the arnova screen went black.
