OK.... So first off is WARNINGS!
There is NO update.img from Arnova at this time! This means if my ROM does not work, you could be bricked until Arnova releases a update.img file!!!!  That in fact is the truth of the matter!  However I do have a IMG dump which can possibly recover you if this ROM does not work.  BUT no gaurentee!  I do not have a Arnova 9 G2 thus I could NOT test this firmware!  Unlike the 7 G2 where Arnova released a update.img to recover you, the 9 G2 has none at this time.

However with that said, after learning how to root the 10 G2 and then yesterday making a 7 G2 firmware which if you read that forum works, I am DAMN sure this ROM will work.  The setup of the files are the 100% the same as the 7 G2 and the 10 G2.  So I am pretty darn confident this ROM will work and provide the same root.

FINAL WARNING.... I do not have a 9 G2 thus could not test this.  However I did flash it on my 10 G2 and it booted but as expected the screen touch did not work (different screen driver). BUT... YOU ARE BETA TESTERS!
Do not complain to me or the admin of this site of you brick your Arnova!  You have been warned!

OK on to the ROM details:

The Arnova 9 G2 firmware was setup EXACLTY like the Arnova 10 G2 and the 7 G2.  Thus I made the exact same changes to the 9 G2 firmware as I did for the 10 G2 and 7 G2.

1) Converted system.img from cramfs to ext3
2) Gave an extra 100mb space to /system so rooted apps that need it can use it.
3) Unlike the 10 G2 and 7 G2, the 9 G2 already has allocated the max space to system.  I could see in the paramater file they had it EXACTLY like the changes I made for the 10 and 7 G2 ROM.  So no benefit from my ROM here!  You don't get any more space.
4) Integrated the changes Admin asked me to do to help support Arctools Market install.

Flashing the firmware requires you install drivers and use the tool I supply in this kit.  There is a README.TXT in the zip so READ IT please and follow all instructions.

OK, OK..... with SOME hesitation only because recovery could be a problem and I have no way to test this ROM, I present you with my fully rooted ROM.  My 3rd Arnova RK29 root ROM 🙂

/assets/firmware/Arnova9G2/arn9g2_23_1_0_arctools.zip

Please if anyone has the "nads" to flash this, let me know how it goes!  If it is as successful as my 10 G2 and 7 G2, I think you will enjoy it.  I am pretty sure with a LARGE amount of confidence, this ROM will work. BUT.... DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!  I am not responsible for this working or not.  I am simply posting it for those that dare 😉

Bob

P.S. Special thanks to admin for dumping a PROPER backup.img from the 9 G2!  That is what made this happen and no other way because a update.img does not exists from Arnova.

GOD..... I am freakin out this time.... I am on "pins and needles" to hear about the first person that took a chance and used my ROM.
GOD... this is kinda intense! BUT I feel VERY confident it will work.

So WHO is the first guinea pig 😉

Top man, it works!

I take it arctools isn't properly supported? It installed the Google files into the system folder fine but it hangs on your boot screen

Greeeeeeat, you did an amazing job, again Smile

I'll give it a shot as well when I am done with the device review in the Blog.

Regarding Arctools issues, I am working on it, I hope to have it cleared very soon.

Also, I have made a copy of the firmware here, to save some bandwith on HF...

Thanks Admin... I will edit my link in the first post.

heedlessmunkey... Using arctools should not cause a boot hang!  I have never seen that happen before.  Did you have to reflash?

What exact version did you use and what did you do specifically?

Yeah reflashed your image and it worked again.

Used the latest version & chose install apps and downloaded the market & apps, tried 2 different versions of the market (3.4.4 was the last effort) in the options and both cause it to hang on the picture of the droid

Are you using Arctools 0.57 and 3.4.4 rooted install?

This does not make sense.  I wish I had a 9 G2 to test with.  Arctools and the market install should not cause it to hang on boot.

I am not sure how to help or proceed?

I am tkinking maybe to take out the symbolic links and other stuff I put in although I cant see why that would cause a problem?  Would you be willing to test a new ROM with that removed and see since your the only guy willing to flash right now?

finless, this Arctools package Default Apps & Market 3.4.4 (root Install) with Arctools 0.60 does install the Market files directly in place (/system), it may be a good test to check if the links cause the fault, but they will have to be removed first (either in the system image or in the system files thru adb) for the files to be copied.

The version above is what I used. Just tried it again, installed then factory wiped but still hangs.

Yeah willing to try that, surely that can only cause another boot hang??!

For others flashing it, to get it to flash hold the menu & reset button. Will save you some trial and error.

OK heedlessmunky... Hang tight... I am going to cook up a new ROM removing everything having to do with Market.  This will ONLY be:

1) Boot.img changes to support /system as ext3

2) System.img converted to ext3.

So if your willing to hang around for about 45 minutes or so, I would love for you to try the new ROM.

The GOOD NEWS is we know we can recover now even without a update.img from Arnova!

I am uploading now to the server.  Should be about 15 minutes.

Alex can you please test Arctools and Market install as well.  You have version 1.0 and as you see heedless is having some issues.  I would like to see if you do.

The new version will be 1.01 although my boot screen will not say that.  Since we are debugging, I don't have time to chage the boot screen.

1.01 will be up soon!

OK here is ROM 1.01

It has all the symbolic links removed in /system for the market AND has arctools stuff removed from init.rc

Please let me know if this works.

EDITED see post below
