Hello,

After few days of the normal work with this firmware - bad news (may be it is coincidence): I plugged in for the charging and it is not work (the charging lamp is shortly in Red, then shortly in Yellow, then off). Settings shows no charging. I have no ideas also how the firmware may influence to the charging process if device is off.

Edit:

The problem was in the charger (no contact :-).

ICS is ok, thank you for the firmware.

I've recently got this device, last week. I didn't realise it would come with Android 2.3 as when I was in the shop (PCWorld UK), this one was the only tablet that wasn't plugged in and switched on, I just assumed as it look like a much better (cosmetically) than other Arnova tablet they had on show next to it, I believe it was the 10 G3 - or something similar, I asked the sales person whether this one came with ICS and he stated yes so I bought the thing without a second thought.

When I got the thing home I then realised it infact, baring looking like a more modern and stylish tablet, it was running an ancient version of Android, but I fell in the love with device nonetheless and set out to upgrade the thing to ICS.

I found this website and immediately decided to download this firmware and upgrade, initially everything was fine and dandy except a few apps kept unexpectedly kept quitting. So I got the thing setup as I liked, installed some applications but the applications kept disappearing when I rebooted, the welcome screen kept coming up and asking for the initial setup stuff and it is basically unstable / unusable as my only Android device / tablet.

Does anyone know whether the 9G2i is any different in hardware specs and also whether Archos/Arnova is going to release an official ICS firmware? Once you're used to ICS it does seem pretty difficult to revert back to 2.3 - Which I have done and now realised the app I most used on ICS isn't available under 2.3 namely Mantano Reader - which I must add is the best PDF viewer on Android in my opinion.

Any help, tips or information for a newbie would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

From what I have observed, the Arnova 9 G2 and 9 G2i have identical hardware, the only difference is the firmware.

Reading the problems you're reporting, it looks like your device isn't properly flashed or has a defective flash memory.

Can you try to flash the firmware again and see if the situation improves ? Preferably use the Restore rather Upgrade button in Rockchip Batch tool, which will "format" part of the system before flashing it.

I think there isn't much hope of Arnova releasing an ICS update for the 9 G2 as it would probably be the 9 G2i firmware.

Finally, if you want to flash back to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it's still possible.

Thanks for reply. I have tried several times to flash the same rom previously.

I've just found another rom by Finless over at freak tab version Arnova_9G2_ICS_Full_Root_Gplay_Finless_1.2. I had to use another tool to flash this one, a tool called RK29update.

So far, things seem okay, I would like an official ROM - or a ROM closer to an official version. If this current ROM seems problematic I shall take your advice and download this ROM again and do the upgrade.

On the other flash tool, the RK29update I had to click EraseIDB, do you what this is for and or what it does?

Also, the layout of this ROM is over several files, what's the difference between these types of ROMS and the update.img ???

Thanks again, Martin.

RK29update permits flashing the different "partitions" (system, boot, recovery...) idependently, it gives a little more control on the flashing process if you know how to use it, but has no real advantage over the RKBatchTool for the end user who just want to flash a firmware.

EraseIDB button does partly "format" the tablet and may help to "cleanup" the firmware if there has been some flashing troubles. Using Restore button on RKBatchTool as I suggest does pretty much the same.

Oh okay I see, thanks for the information.

Regarding the Arnova 9G2i ICS ROM, do you know where I can find the MD5 sum for that?

Although I'm pretty much convinced it's because I didn't click Restore and instead clicked Upgrade as to why I was having so much problems.

I'll stick with the current ROM I'm on ATM as it appears to boot faster and seems pretty stable, but I'll probably give the Arnova 9G2i firmware another go at some point, probably re-download it just to be safe.

Thanks again, you've been very helpful.

Martin.

Well the Arnova 9 G2i firmware was obtained by a user firmware dump in a forum, as explained in the introduction article. It was sent as an archive (with checksum control) in the first place so there's almost no risk of data corruption. Same for the file you've downloaded, you'd get an error from your archiving program if the zip file was damaged.

My guess is that you probably had some initial flashing issue that could be corrected by flashing with Restore, or doing EraseIDB in RK29update then flashing normally with Upgrade in RKBatchTool.

Cheers.

You can download a stock 9G2 Android 2.3 firmware dump: http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova9G2/AN9G2_stock_dump_20111118.zip

and flash it using Rockchip flasher.

Cheers.

Worked perfectly on my G2i. It took me a while to get it into recovery mode, but after that it was easy.

And it seems to run even smoother than the original ICS install...

Okay guys, as of today I am finally on this 'more' offical type ROM I got around to installing after trying out the nexus style ROM and not liking it. Admin was right, it was just a case of my previous attempts to install this ROM was a flashing issue.

But alas I am have the same problem with this ROM as I had on the fineless ICS ROM, is anyone else having the same problems I wonder? I can download and successfully install Chrome browser but the app doesn't function properly and loads half of a page and is completely unresponsive and I am unable to scroll and click links etc...

Also, flash doesn't play videos in fullscreen with a browser, it's not picky about which one either, everyone I've tried. The audio contines to play in the background but no video.

Thanks in advance, Martin.
