Just to say, thank you very much for this.

I bought the tablet a couple of weeks ago as I needed something smaller and lighter than a laptop, and unlike other tablets it has a proper USB connector so I can download images from my camera.

I've just updated the firmware and what a difference! Interestingly, after the update, all my data was still intact.

I am now running ICS and I can access the apps that I need.

Thanks again, the only thing it could do with now is more memory Wink

Im still running version 1 of this Custom Firmware.

Could someone let me know what's the difference between ver1 and ver 4 apart from the face unlock, does version 4 fix the video streaming type problems ie blank screen on netflix, and BBC Iplayer when in full screen?

Certainly for me, the iPlayer problem still exists. I've tried updating to the latest version of Flash player and it hasn't solved the problem.

The problem is mentioned on other tablets in the Adobe forums, so I think it's an Adobe problem rather than anything to do with the custom firmware.

I tried installing an earlier version of Flash player, but it didn't work with ICS.

http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova9G2/kasty-arn9g2-40-04.zip

I completely installed this firmware on ARNOVA 9 G2.

After 5 minutes of normal work of Android the tablet spontaneously tried to reboot.
However loading of a tablet stopped on ARNOVA inscription.
I repeatedly tried to install this firmware. Unfortunately process of installation of firmware after unpacking and check (again RKBatchTools at the end of procedure wrote - OK) wasn't started.
I see now only ARNOVA inscription on a black background.

Try using the Restore button rather than the Update one in the flashing tool.

Trying to install the Arnova 9 G2 custom ics firmware, I'm following instructions using the Rockchip flashing tool.  When I go to put the device into flashing mode, instead of finding the device and prompting for a driver I get the following:

USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

Tried it on a few Win7 computers and on an XP computer, same result.

Changed the hardware installation settings as per the troubleshooting section.  Same result.

Any thoughts anyone?

Try going to device manager and see if there is some unknown device listed. If yes, just update its driver there.

I had to goto the device ist and set the driver for the unknown after that it all went smooth booted right up.

The ony problem I'm haveing is when I shut down it doesn't always come back it sits at the arnova boot screen. I have to reflash to get back up and running, but once its running its very smooth.

Does anyone know how to make the browser think its a tabet and not a phone I can only get n mobile sites

When you've got the mobile page, click in the top right, then in the drop down menu select Request desktop site.

You may have to do this at each site you visit which has a mobile version.

re above: thanks redthief and excelletor, unknown device shows up only while the reset pin is still pushed in.  It's a little tricky, but i can click to upgrade driver while it's pushed in but then message says it already has the best driver.  Then when reset pin is pulled out it all disappears and tablet restarts.  Admin, any ideas?

Yay!

Sussed the USB Device malfunctioned issue...

Cant remember exactly but ...

  • follow the troubleshooting bit of the main article and turn off automated driver installation
  • put your device in flashing mode and wait until you get the unrecognised USB device message
  • let go of the volume button but keep the reset button pressed (so you have a free hand)
  • go into device manager, find the Unrecognised device and keep uninstalling it until it moves from the 'Universal Serial Bus Conrtollers' section into the 'Unkown Device' section
  • Now Windows will let you install the correct drivers

Because Windows is automatically shoving the device in 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' (I think that's what it said it was on mine) it wont let you install any other driver but a USB Controller driver, which the Arnova driver is not!!

Restore instead of upgrade worked for me as well 🙂

btw, does Chrome Beta for ICS work fine for you guys?  Standard Browser or Firefox are OK, but Chrome seems to have trouble with synchronization as it does not even show Bookmarks on start-up screen and with manually typed WWW address opens very slowly.

I tried Chrome browser a few time on ICS, I did not get so good results (speed and stability issues). I'd probably give it a few weeks until a stable release is offered.
