Incidentally, I bought my tablet and immediately set about reflashing it without ever trying the original Gingerbread. Given that a few things don't work with the custom ICS ROM, was that not such a good idea? I read so much stuff about how it would be so much better with ICS. Someone please reassure me I did the right thingI wondered that myself at first. Apart from not being sure where the "original" ROM is now, I was not at all impressed with the Gingerbread (and my phone had ICS out the box too so that's what I'm used to), but my main reason for wanting to upgrade was that I wanted a wider choice of apps than Silly Birds or whatever the pretty much only app was called that was available from the useless default Arnova store and I didn't want to go rooting the 9G2 to install Google Play on Gingerbread when there was a custom ICS with Google Play readily available. Which is the greater headache - living with the things that don't work properly with the custom ICS, or trying to root Gingerbread to allow Google Play? Your call...tough choice (not).
I'm not that bothered about having loads of apps (though my kids might be). A web browser and Twitter client are my main requirements. But I just liked the idea of getting a cheap tablet and reflashing it up to the latest o/s. I can live with the missing English Language dictionary as I'm a good speler (heh!) but I would like to be able to say to my wife that it's a BBC iPlayer tablet. I guess that might be fixed without the need to reflash the ROM. I'd have liked everything to work first time but I'm still glad I did it.

Updated to ICS, yay. One thing I've noticed, however, is that usb sticks (fat32) won't mount on the full-size connector. Is this normal behaviour?Â+1
I have the same problem. Now, the only way to transfer files to my tablet is using the micro usb cable.Â
I'll have a look.
Hello, yesterday flashed ics 4.0.3 - works great!!!
Regarding USB type A - I had a weird problem in old Gingerbread, that USB sticks could not be mounted. I found that I have to plug in the USB stick at the certain stage of reboot process (somewhen 2 seconds after Arnova logo appears) - then it is recognized (I can see files on it using standard file browser - note this as this may be the key of the problem). But when I plug it out, then no any other USb stick could be mounted afterwards.
Now with ICS 4.0.3 probably the problem remained - the standard file manager cannot access the second plugged in usb stick, however I found a "workaround" - when I start TotalCommander - it can see any usb stick! And afterwards also the standard file managed can do this, but not before that. So it seems to me that TotalCommander is fixing the problem somehow.
Can someone confirm this?
Â
Once again, thanx for this great forum and beautiful firmware!

First of all,Â
thank you for this great forum and the firmware update! Unfortunately I have to enter this thread with a problem right away.Â
I did the update and everything was fine for a few days. But lately I get error messages that processes stop unexpectedly (Mostly Mail, but also Google Search or Google Play). Is that a know bug or just a problem with my Arnova 9 G2?

Hello,Â
Can you help me to also be happy owner of Play market?
I have a problem after flashing. I made the trick with "menu" button and paperclip , and it seems thatÂ
tablet entered flashing mode.Â
After Windows asked install  new driver, I did it and got message about  successfull installation of RK29 device.
But RKBatchTool.exe doesn't see anything.
Â
Do you have some suggestion?
Â
Thanks!

Hello! I have installed ICS succesfully on my 9 G2 - but I cannot get skype working properly...no video is shown when I call someone. I have found, that G2 tablet's video is not supported by skype - and tried the version skype47 recommended in diverse fora, downloaded from web.It still does not work. The google+app also did not work...(closed when opened), which i tried to use as alternative...any comments and help very welcome! Thank you! Best regards! Andreas

[Read Bottom 2 Paragraphs] Hi I want to say this OS is what the tab should have came with in the first place! The old one using just applib and the setout of it made it feel useless with no word processor apps on appslib either. Kind of like a huge phone that didnt have half the apps . All I used it for was to read ebooks.
Now its a lot better!!
I've noticed people saying they can watch movies with it tho... I'm not findin that easy the browser (stock or dolphin) closes within 5 mins everytime?
Â
Edit: Because of the browser problem i tried to redo this update. It's stuck in recovery mode now and the message the batch tool gives is Download IDB Fail ?
Please someone guide me out off this. One thing that was different i did from last time is that the hash was missing from the usb driver (message i got when it tried to install drivers) so i used the usb drivers from one of the other rockchip tools and that worked. But the green box on the flash tool now says 1-1 where as before it said 8-5? Â Â I'm using a different PC to the first time. This runs windows 8.

Sorry you are stuck with that problem, but W8 is too much "new" so that may be the problem drivers related. I suggest you to use the "old" windows computer and repeat the update step by step.
Â
FYI, I'm using Firefox with (almost) no problems. Good tab performance (up to 3 on my experience), sync features, plugin and add-ons support,...

Hi everybody,
Â
after flashing ICS in my Arnova 9G2 I was first amazed with it. But very soon, after installing many apps, the tab became very very slow and practically unusable. Probably, ICS is too heavy weight for this tab.
Finally, for all of a sudden all the apps i collected, were gone, (got always message "App isn't installed" )
so I decided to flash a newer Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from here:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?2069-NEOCM10-for-9G2-Version-1-5&p=37190#post37190
So far flashing worked well, the tab became usable again, and again responding promptly, though this ROM is also with some caveats.
I am puzzled with memory allocation of this tab and Android in general.
Why isn't it possible to install all the apps onto external SD? And why is the tab getting so slow just after installing some more apps?
