The lack of Google Play (formerly Android Market) support on the Arnova 8c G3 8 inches Android 4.0 ICS tablet is one the biggest inconvenience, we are happy to bring you a solution. We built a custom firmware to add Google Play/Android Market and full root with read-write access to /system partition.

Image Enlarger

Arnova 8c G3 custom firmware features

  • Clean installation of latest Google Play Store 3.5.15, no more missing apps (Twitter, Facebook...)
  • Installation of other Google Apps (Gmail, Play Music, Google Search)
  • Full root support with writable /system partition
  • Root access is controlled thru SuperSU.apk  0.89 (free version), a cool upgrade to SuperUser.apk by XDA developer Chainfire
  • Updated Rockchip loader to latest version (2.20)

Our custom firmware can be installed in two ways. The first method is the easiest and will let you have Google Play running in about 10 minutes. The second method erases all the data stored on the tablet, but uses a safer approach.

Arnova 8c G3 custom firmware install easy procedure

Please note that this flashing method is easy to run but includes the same risks as a regular firmware flash. If it goes wrong for some reason and bricks your tablet, the only way to recover it (if the hardware isn't damaged) will be to use Rockchip Flashing tool.

Please note this firmware install procedure keeps installed apps and data on the tablet.

Step 1. Download and install Arctools from Appslib.

Run Appslib that can be found in the applications on your tablet. While in Appslib, search for "Arctools" application, you should get "ArcTools - Google Play / Android Market & Apps installer" in the list, download, install and run the application.

If you don't have Appslib installed, you'll need to download it from appslib.com servers.

Step 2. Download firmware

In Arctools, go to Firmware tab, select "Arnova 8c G3 custom firmware 0.42 EZ" (or more recent than 0.42 if there is one)…

This works fine.
I do have one issue.
The calendar sync for my accounts do all not work.
All sync calender entries show 'sync com.android.calendar'.
Looks a bit strange to me. Is this a firmware issue?

I'm having the exact same issue Cry. Believe the fix should be the same as the fix for the 7 G3 detailed here:

there's a stopgap method detailed there

Everything is fine except the calendar doesn't synch. Believe may be related to the fixed calendar sync issue for the 7 G3:

My arnova 8g3 won't even download this, stops responding. Am very dissappointed with this tablet-I have 3 of them.
(And it's not my internet connection.)

Thought also about that this may be related to the fixed calendar sync issue for the 7 G3.

Had just time to install it, ...., it works!

Just rename the old ones (extension), so you do have a copy.

Download the new ones somewhere and run the apk's, reboot: works fine.
I 'm happy now Cool

hello guys, i have an issue after installing google play on my tablet... so i'm trying to use Chrome instead of the default browser but it isn't working well. when i open a red frame flashes around the window andthen when I select a website like neowin.net it just sends me back to the homescreen. I noticed google.com sometimes works and ebay too but they are very choppy and in ebay i can't zoom in. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restoring the tablet, but it still doing it. I tried Opera as well and it somewhat works but has its own isses too. So far i'm stuck with the default browser because it is the only usable one.

Did your tablets work fine after installing google play, is chrome working ok for you? or is there something else i have to adjust to make my tablet work the way it should? I did the easy install procedure.
