I see where Arnova has posted a firmware update to the 8 G3. Is the proper sequence - update with the Arnova firmware and then modify with the custom firmware (kasty)? Or just put on the custom firmware?

Actually our custom firmware version 0.4 is based on an older firmware dump, so it's less recent than the Arnova official firmware.

If you flash Kasty, you'll end up with a custom firmware with Google Play probably on the same version than your current system. I'm in the process of updating our custom firmware from Arnova latest official firmware, which is a few weeks more recent than the initial dump I used for kasty.

Cheers.

The update with latest Arnova official firmware (build fingerprint IML74K/eng.root.20120613.180630:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys) customized with Google Play and root is now ready.  Here is our Arnova 8 G3 custom firmware version 0.42:

Thanks SupArnova for your help with the firmware tests.

No, 8b G3 uses some different hardware. You can help us developing a custom firmware by providing a dump from your tablet. It goes the eaisest if you have access to a Linux system, otherwise I can give you details on how to do it on a windows machine.

Thanks for the reply, glad I didn't update, I don't have a Linux system too hand so I would appreciate some help in making this dump so I can aid the building of a new firmware

Help!!!   I attempted to do the custom update. After i did the reset/power my PC (Win 7) looked for a driver but didn't find one. It didn't seem to offer me the option to select one. So I quit the process and attempted to start over. Now whenever I attempt to flash I get a weird sound from my PC (unlike the normal sound when you connect a new device) and on the Arnova I get a picture of a "dead" android and a red triangle with an exclamation mark). Fortunately when I disconnect from PC and power up the Arnova it is back to it's old state. But I can't seem to do the custom update now.

Any suggestions?

Hankp,

We've published our EZ flashing method for our firmware which is a really easy way to install the custom firmware on your Arnova 8 G3. Please refer to our article:

Cheers.

Just want to add my thanks to all who worked on the update. As a newbie I was a little worried but it all went very smoothly.

Does anyone know of any type of online tutorial that can tell a little more about the working of Android? For example where can you find the pre-installed apps like calendar & how do you get rid of them.

Hi all,

I've updated to the new custom firmware and I got Google play now. As I've bought this tablet (Arnova 8 G3) for my daughter, I install Talking Tom, Ben and Pierre (3 applications). There is sound issue with 2 of these applications Talking Tom 2 and Talking Pierre. There is no sound at all. But with Talking Ben everything is OK.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thank you in advance!

I had the same problem. Did not find a solution, talking tom (1) does work though.
