My wife has been using my tablet and all was well until she decided she needed the sd card for her phone and when the tablet wouldn't work in her infinite wisdom she decided to try the update firmware and since then the tablet hasn't worked properly
I've put another sd card in and it boots fine but their is nothing on it, i can add an account and get onto app store but when i try and download my apps its saying they aren't compatible with the device and the ones that are cant download because its saying their is no space available
I've checked the storage and the sd card has 7.4 gb but the system has nothing
Does anyone have any suggestions apart from shooting the wife
Here I see 2 diferent questions: "they are not space avalaible" is a diferent problem to "This app is not compatible with the device".
The first one could present a problem with the change of sd-card, and could be the consequence by the tablet getting slower. In this case you have two options to solve in the android gingerbread:
"Settings/Privacy/ factory data reset"(erases all data on phone) and the reinstall apps, account google, etc,....
"about phone/system updates" thats get reboot in CMW recovery. If your wife tried the update system, maybe she can´t, because first of all, you need to put de updates.zip or update.img in the sd-card, and in case you flashed your tablet, would need push volumen + several times until enable button options. Here also you can wipe data and factory reset, or update system, and more..a backup system for example.
The first conclusion could be ¿what kind of firmware it have been operating in the tablet? ¿original? ¿and really could my wife updated it?
When the first problem is solved about system, face the second one:
"this app is not compatible with the device". It could be true, actually, tecnology improvement fast. But you must wait to the gray button "google settings" instaled automatically in your tablet, that´s google, you can see in the menu among the another apps, and then try again.
If don´t works, have another chance, try to install arctools app (before let do a factory reset), and after to reinstall apps again, and in case nothing works
The last one or heavy artillery. You can open your device to fully options, using a tool "market helper" changing for a tablet nexus7 for example, it´s a tricky way...be carefully, because is dangerous in two ways: maybe the app it´s not a trusted, it´s fine, but I needed to put some information and permittions, operator and country, maybe is trusted and necesary, I don´t know but I used and works too well; and the second advices, you finally enticed to use some app or games, above specifications of your tablet, for example, ram or cpu....doing some damage in you tablet, take it easy.
here, There are my solutions.
Ok let me explain myself a little better. I bought the tablet on ebay back in march and couldnt get app market to work. After a quick google i found this forum and asked for help. I tried to flash it but failed so globula_neagra did it for me for which i will be eternally grateful. The tablet worked great up until me wife taking the sim out.
What happens now it, The tablet boots up as normal but instead of the apps i had installed being on it its empty so much so i even have to add a gmail acc its as if everytime it shuts down it wipes itself. Once i have entered the acc info i can get on app store but cannot download any apps because its saying they are not compatable even the ones that are stored in MyApps on the App Store are saying they arnt compatable
If it was a PC i'd just format it and do a fresh install but i dont know hoe to do this on a tablet if it can be done at all.
I have a new sd card now and have tried to do what globula_neagra back in march but its still the same.
It´s true , it´s very complicated to connect to the pc and reinstall system, recovery etc,..., you need to read the tutorial, install java, android sdk,......etc....Because previously you must fix the problem you said "I've checked the storage and the sd card has 7.4 gb but the system has nothing"
I mean your tablet was rooted, and flashed, I´m sure the firmware are stable, but there are three rooted modes, really are two: "No-sd" and "ext-2 or ext4", depends it´s mounted data and caché in the sd-card or don`t.
what that´s mean? Globula negra did for you, but which option? I don´t know, you´d need to ask him, or you must tried to guess:
For example, if you capacity in the sd card were divided in 2, like your actually 8gb sd-card, you had 3,85 avaliable in sd storage, and the another 3,85 in data, and left in cache, then that was an ext-4 boot and recovery. In this case you need an expertise en CWM, or globula negra reinstall again, or follow step by step, I could help you by internet from Spain.
If you don´t remind your tablet was configurated like this, you could be lucky...because for example "nosd" it easy to fix, I think you wouldn´t have any problem doing a factory data reset (I explain you in my last anwer), and reinstall this Arctools.apk
put in the sd card from the pc, you don´t need libs skip this step and,...directly package installer and in the settings select "unknow sources", and install, then follow the next video from 5:30 until the end, and reboot system.
For the "are not compatible", this kind of problem it´s tipical because the app´s are continue updating for android 4.3 or later, from march to december, it´s an eternity. And could use CWM, and select disabled TOGGLE SCRIPT ASSERTS, maybe works, or use markethelper.apk (I explain you in my lastest), there is not a big problem.
if you do a factory reset it should bring the tablet back to the same condition as it was when global flashed it. otherwise if you have a cwm backup on the original sd. Install it that will also work.
if you can still get in to cwm using phone update, you could also install v3 from global as an update zip. i am using it and it works well for me. if you can't get in to cwm, Global is the man to contact you will need to reflash.
