I managed to create a boot image for 7c g2 with root access.

How to flash:

disconnect tablet from all cables

shut device down

press power-on+volume

fastboot flash boot newboot.img

fastboot reboot

Download: http://www.nanolx.org/downloads/newboot.img

That's it. Try running `adb root' and it will tell you it's already running / adb shell immediately starts as root.

Ah and / is also writable. 😉

That's really great, thanks setialpha.

I'll give it a try tomorrow and will let you know how it goes on my 7cG2...

I also played around with default.prop, though it needs testing first (dunno which features do actually apply to the 7c g2).

As of now I don't know whether a custom boot-logo is possible. Atleast there's neither splash1 nor splash2 to flash the image to.

Hmm... I uploaded a new one, try again.

Dunno, here it works. Maybe differences in firmware? The backup uploaded in the forum and the stock firmware are not identical. Though I have a second device with stock firmware and it works here, too.

Edit:

Did you try with "adb root" before "adb shell"?

hi folks.

first post in this forum.

i've just got the 7c g2 for my wife and it seems a decent tab. its the root thats the issue as i want her to have gmail plus market.

i've tried rooting using superoneclik but no joy.

how  - in plain simple steps (for a non programmer) would i install your image file?

ive noticed that if you go to about phone>system updates it boots into recovery

does this mean that this will take an update.zip? cos it's not registering the img file you've put together.

many thanks

chris

I already described in first post 😉

fastboot flash boot newboot.img

fastboot reboot

fastboot is part of the AndroidSDK. If you don't have it then go get it. http://developer.android.com/sdk/

Everything you need to know is described in the developer wiki.

Edit:

Did you try with "adb root" before "adb shell"?

No, to be honest i havent tried using adb at all -- i am using a terminal emulator app that drops me to a shell on the device. I must say that i installed OI file manager and am indeed able to browse /sys /etc and so on, which i dont think i was able to before -- i just realized it this morning. I will try both adb and the updated image later.

What I need to do is to substitute the existing pptp vpn module with a custom one from xda so that i can use encrypted pptp tunnels.. the custom module i found is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087683 [as you may know, gingerbread pptp encryption support is broken]

any idea how i could substitute the module in the img file? Anyway, thanks for all your great work
