I seem to be having a bit of an issue with the Kindle app on the 7b G2. The first sentence of each page is covered up by the top bar of the device, as you can just about see in this very bad photo:

I've tried changing the margins and the font size, but no luck. Anyone know how to either get kindle to recognise the bar and give it some space, or temporarily hide the bar while the app is open?

Thanks for that. The first suggestion there isn't really viable, but I found this linked from there:

http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?291-My-first-APK-mod!-Transparent-Status-Bar!!!

Basically you just replace /system/app/SystemUI.apk with a hacked version which has transparency set. This would be great, but unfortunately my /system partition is read only so I can't change it.

Do I presume it's possible to dump my system partition in recovery mode, modify the img file to overwrite the SystemUI.apk and then flash just that partition back again?

I'm guessing I just:

1) run rkflashtool r 0x00 0x20 to get the start and length of the system partition (e.g. size 0x00080000 at offset 0x001cc000)
2) run rkflashtool r 0x001cc000 0x00080000 > system.img
3) Mount the image, overwrite the SystemUI.apk, and repackage into an img file
4) Flash it back using rkflashtool w 0x001cc000 0x00080000 < system-new.img

Is that right?

Any chance we could add the modded SystemUI.apk to the kitchen? Might be useful as an option.

Damn! The apk supplied doesn't work on the 7bG2. I tried picking apart my SystemUI.apk but I can't find the right bit to modify :-\ I tried modifying one of the png files to make it transparent but it messed everything up when I flashed it to the tablet.

Any ideas which file to modify to make the status bar transparent?

in the system folder of my 7bg2 there is no app folder.

Only system/apk , en then there is a folder /common. But it has no systemui.apk in it.

You are probably not looking at the root of the device.

Try to use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer on Google Play / Android Market to access to the root of your tablet.
