Hello im an IT tech for a school and a teacher brought in a arnova 7g3 and informed me that her daughter locked it and forgot the passcode. I believe its on ICS stock rom. All i get is the pattern display, i have tried up to 40 attempts and it does not give the the option to reset with gmail. When i hook it up to windows 7 it does not register. Also i can get itno what looks like a recovery mode but cant get drivers to install. If i hold the reset button down in the mic hole and hold down power the led light comes on and no boot but stays lit up. Im kind of lost. I do not have a micro sd card on me at the moment. I was going to try to put the stock rom on there and go into the mode i was just speaking of to reflash? Any help or ideas?
If the lock screen doesn't offer the option to reset thru Gmail after many attemps, I am afraid a low level firmware flashing is the only option. I'd first flash Elvish firmware using LiveSuite Windows tool, then eventually restore the original Arnova 7 G3 stock firmware.

I did some reading as well and found that in some cases it's possible to crack the lock pattern:
It won't work if the tablet did not have ADB enabled and requires a little tinkering.

Other tablets have a recovery mode by holding power and volume. The an7g3 doesn't have hard volume controls. So if you get to recovery there's no way to navigate.
Reading an FTC preliminary solan7g3 manual holding power button for 10 seconds will reset but I don't think it will work.
Seems to be rebranded chinese tablet from france. Still looking. Parlez vous francois?
If it helps, Arnova is a sister company from Archos, originally from France, but the manufacturing is done by Chinese companies.
The Arnova 7 G3 was identified as a clone or OEM product of the Hyundai a7 (South Korean company) as the Elvish custom firmware made the A7 also works on the 7 G3, with the execption of the accelerometer not working. both tablets also look the same.
I don't know how to trigger recovery using hardware buttons on the 7 G3, but you can reboot in recovery thru ADB with:
adb reboot recovery
Cheers

We have been waiting for that for months, several people requested it to Arnova/Archos, without result.
This is what lead cool guys like ninjaduck and ALD3 on the forum here to make their own firmware dump: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/arnova-7-g3/original-firmware-dump-anyone/

I actually sent my 7g3 into Arnova/Archos for a warranty issue and had a very good experience with their tech department. I was kept informed of ongoing repair status via email, always in a timely manner. Within a little over one month I received it back. I was impressed how well the company takes care of even the smallest of details. You should have a likewise experience.
Thanks for the feedback gobruce, that's not what we usually hear about Archos / Arnova support (most of the time users complains about poor support to help with the problem diagnostic, bad tracability about the repair progress, long delays).
One good thing is that they usually replace the device with a brand new one, sometimes an upgrade when they don't have a replacement for the damaged model.
cheers.
