My quick review (and I wouldn't call lohtse's review a mini .... 🙂 Good review, thanks for writing it up.)
First: Ditto on lohtse's view.
Second: My additions.
I just installed Amazon App Store and not the Google Play Store. The tablet is being used already and I didn't want to go through wiping it out. Amazon App Store has what my kids wanted anyway. Google Talk (for video chat) is the only thing I'd like yet.
I'm typing this up on my 7 G3 using a wireless USB keyboard that came with my Acer Aspire Revo ( a small form factor Atom dekstop ). So USB works for keyboards and mice. I'll also say that I LOVE that when I connect the 7 G3 to my computer it shows up as a extrenal drive. Much better then the media player type access of my ICS phone (Nexus S 4G).
Wireless is flaky at times. That shows up on Netflix. After awhile wireless will drop out and you have to reboot to go again.
HDMI works well.
There is a Deer Hunter game that gets confused on HDMI versus tablet. Tablet goes blank and it tries to output down the HDMI. And the cable wasn't attached. Plug in the cable and it works (tablet and TV). Don't know if that was a tablet or game bug.
Guess that is it for now.

just do this for market and google talk is a much better market method and solved all my issues and more… ignore the wipe data etc but if you get some FCs just go to apps in settings and wipe the caches...

That got Google Play Store. There was no Google Talk in the downloaded apks. And it isn't in the play store either. How did you get Talk?

if am allow I will upload the apk later for you (admin let me know if thats permitted)
Â
actually just download this http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
add the required app(s) to system/apps like you have done already.. reboot and should be good to go...
Â
Credits go to the Guys at http://goo.im/gapps/....
lohtse, it shouldn't be a problem if you want to upload the APK.
It's probably best to make a separate topic for Google Play / Market setup.
I'll probably include that procedure in Arctools when I can test it on an Arnova 7 G3 so Google Play will be even easier to setup.

I grabbed the 0429 the other day and just gave that a try. The Talk.apk works for chat. But, I had to install the videochat and speex libs from system/lib to get video and audio to work (lib/libspeexwrapper.so , lib/libvideochat_jni.so , and libvideochat_stabilize.so ). Does the 0317 work for you straight out?
Â
For me, I used ConnectBot to get a local terminal ..
0) su
1) remount system ( mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/nandd /system ). You can see all the mounts by just typing mount.
2) change permissions ( chmod 777 /system/app and chmod 777 /system/lib )
3) use ES file explorer to copy the .apk and lib files ( because ICS doesn't have the cp command  and I didn't want to type a cat a bunch of times )
4) change owner to root for files ( chown root.root /system/app/* and chown root.root /system/lib/* )
5) clear out the app data from system for Google Account Manager, Google Partner Setup, and Google Play Store.
6) reboot
Â
For Talk I needed to use headphones, because with the mic right on the speaker it couldn't keep up with feedback. Headphones solved that.
Â
Please do update arctools for the 7 G3 (including Talk, GMail, and Maps). That would be awesome!
Thanks arrasmith for these details, it will help me to prepare the setup in Arctools for the Arnova 7 G3. I'll ask if I need testers to check everything is working fine.
Regarding your 3) running
busybox cpÂ
should do itÂ
Cheers.

Gah. That shortens what I needed to do.
0) su
1)Â Â mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/nandd /system
2) busybox cp [apkLocation]/*.apk  /system/app/  and  busybox cp [libLocation]/*.so  /system/lib/
4) chmod 644 /system/app/*  and   chmod 644 /system/lib/*
Â
Interesting that they are using ext4 as the filesystem. Probably could put all the files in the right order and use "busybox tar" to preserve permissions and get a binary blob that has what is needed. And untar them to the right spots. How safe are the goo.im directory trees? Could just grab the entire system directory of one of those and dump it on a 7 G3.

Just got done talking with my son over GTalk (I'm at work and he is at home). Video and audio get a bit out of sync, but it looks good. Thanks for the help getting this to work.

I really can't imagine how much nice $100 tablets will change the education and game market. Pair it with open education like http://www.myopenmath.com/ and free textbooks ... wow. A calculus text costs $150 in comparison.
