It is exemplified very well here how you should enter in flashing mode
if your tablet is in a woking condition you an alo use
adb, with the command
adb reboot bootloader
or a terminal app with the command
all the above will get you tablet in flashing mode.
Rockchip Batch Tool should be able to update from any firmware, even a damaged one or non booting tablet.

I tried the rockchip tool and that did recognize my device either... im asking do i also have to be on stock firmware???
Try to install the drivers first and after that use the rockchip tool.
the drivers on the batch tool do not work all it says is windows has recognized the file to be installed or something? im at a complete loss here. the firmware im on now is the stock stuff I have flashed from arctools already and when I try to put it in flash mode with the reset button and the lock on all it does it pull up an unknown device notification and does nothing and I can not do anything with it... my
htc wasn't this hard!!!
