OK folks the Arnova 7 G2 firmware was setup EXACLTY like the Arnova 10 G2.  Thus I made the exact same changes to the 7 G2 firmware as I did for the 10 G2.

1) Converted system.img from cramfs to ext3

2) Gave an extra 100mb space to /system so rooted apps that need it can use it.

3) Gave system memory a boost up from 225mb to 450mb.  This give more room for apps!

4) Integrated the changes Admin asked me to do to help support Arctools Market install.

Flashing the firmware requires you install drivers and use the tool I supply in this kit.  There is a README.TXT in the zip so READ IT please and follow all instructions.

THIS IS ONLY FOR THE ARNOVA 7 G2!!!

If you 7c G2 guys use this your screen will not work and you will be broken until Arnova releases a update.img for your version!!!  I also cant say if this will work on the 7b G2 but I would NOT try it since you also do not have a update.img from Arnova yet.

WARNING – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!  Do not complain to me or the admin of this site of you brick your Arnova!  You have been warned!

FINAL WARNING - I have no way to test this firmware as I do not have a 7 G2.  However the root process was exactly liek the 10 G2. So this ROM should work.  YOU WILL BE A BETA TESTER by installing this.  Please let me know how it goes.  If it doesnt work you can flash back to stock ROM using RKbtach tool and the update.img from Arnova.  In my README I explain all that so again read it please.

OK so here is the new cooked up ROM!

I'll test it on my currently bricked 7G2, it can't get really worse 😉

Will report results here.

Edit:

Works like a charm, my 7G2 is back to life ! Smile

Nice boot picture, thanks a bunch finless.

I'll test it a little more and give feedback later.

finless, thank you for your work on this - it looks clear and simple.  I have one question.  My 7G2 does not have an external volume button to press as stated in the process for driver installation (unlike the 10G2).  Are you aware how I get my machine in to the required mode?

The readme will need some updates for the 7G2...

Actually you need to put the power button to the right side (lock icon).

Pretty similar to the procedure here: /blog/archos-tablet/flashing-firmware-rockchip-cpu-based-devices-archos-ht-7-8-arnova-10/

Thanks Bob, just updated my Arnova 7 G2. No issues. How do you recommend installing Google apps?

I will uipdate the readme when I get home from work today.

Thanks for the tips!

Glad the ROM is working.  Kinda scary kicking out a ROM you cant test first 😉
But as I said it was exactly like the 10 G2.  Now to get the 9 G2 done 🙂

Tango91, no need buddy.  If your ever in Southern California you can buy me a beer then 🙂

Simon, have a look in the 10 G2 forum.  Lots of posts about it.  Bottom line what works for me is Arctools 0.57.  Then choose Market 4.3.3 rooted install.

Can I ask a favor of someone please.... Since I do not have a 7 G2 to understand how to get it into recovery mode, can some update my readme with the proper instructions and send it to me?  I read the link but again since I physically do not have one I am not sure I understand the proceedures.

Works like a charm. Only thing that doesn't work is Chainfire 3D, tried to install the driver and got stuck in a boot loop, had to reflash.
