I just tested RKAndroidTool 1.29, it does not detect the tablet in recovery, keeps saying: "No found RKAndroid Rock usb", while RKAndroidBatchUpgrade v1.23 worked (I got the little square turning green).

Regarding the system.img, I remember dumping it from the machine (with rkdump), but I am not sure that was the only I used it for my custom firmware.

Never mind about system.img.  I found a way to decrypt it and it was successful using stock system.img 🙂

As for making a update.img I will just do that using AFPtool which should work with the RKbatch tool or what they on the RX28 call the RKAndroidBatchUpgrade tool (or DM).

It appears some version of the AFPtool do not make a good update.img.  The RK29 latest version of the AFPtool unpacked it fine.  But I am concerned about what to pack it with as of yet as some info out on the web is sketchy.

Making progress now though...

Reminds me of all the work I had to learn about for RK29....  RK28 is for sure a bit different!

FYI I bet I can make a stable ext3 on system.img.  My bet is paramater and other things were not set right.

Ha haaaaaa...... I think I got this Tab!  Stay tuned.....

I wish I had one to test on though but I think I will have a full root on this baby soon....  Maybe tonight for testing.

WHEN I SAY TESTING.... I MEAN TESTING!

Who's going to be the test pig?

My GOD man... RK28 tools are so archiac compared to RK29 tools.....  Well I guess that is the progress of things 🙂

I wish they were backwards compatible but they are NOT for sure!

Admin, I seriously need to know what AFPTool you used to make a valid update.img.  Info about this is all over the place on the web!  Please share the version of AFPTool you used please... I do not want my test ROM to not to work because of a bad pack.
I have spent a lot of the day researching this and it appears this is an issue;  Unpack with AFPTool for RK 2818 but repack with AFPTool RK2808....  WTH??? this can't be right? THERE must BE A AFPTool that works propertly for RK2818.  Again AFPTool for RK29 unpacked the update.img just fine.  However I am unsure what version to use to make a valid update.img for the 10b.

So I know you have done this before?  Please let me know so I can make a good update.img.

FYI, decrypting the stock ROMs system.img was HARD!  I figured it out myself 🙂  I will share that later as for now it's about making a ROM.
