So I was thinking to myself last night, is there a port for this for any of the arnova tablets? I may try my hand at porting (never done it before but i am a fast learner)

But the question is, where do I begin? Where are there help guides for porting stuff etc?

I know there are a few online guides for android coding etc but where are they I cant find them? Dx

I really wanna get knee deep in this :3

Any help would be appreciated

I haven't heard of any CM9 port to Arnova G3 devices and it probably won't be a piece of cake knowing that Arnova hasn't published source code for their device's kernel. There may be some compatible devices based on the same CPU (RK2918) and same hardware that have received a CM9 port which can be reused on the G3s...

I haven't done that myself yet, I don't know of any pointers on where to start.

We tried a cm7.2 on arnova 7c g2
We managed to make everything work except the 3g and wifi, the problem was caused by the file libhardware_legacy which controls some drivers, and specific commands given to those drivers.
The libhardware_legacy must be compiled usually when you have the source files, but we did not have, so you have a chance to finish a full port of cm9 only if you get the hands on the source files.
You could use the stock kernel, in our case it worked better then the one that was cooked in cm7.2
It is a pain in the ass if you do it alone

Try to find some devices that share the cpu, and same wifi drivers and maybe you will be lucky to make a full build.

ill keep a look out for devices that share the same CPU then.

I have no idea how to do this though but hey, always room for new things :3

reviving this as i am still interested in doing it but no idea where to begin, looking on forums (freaktab) the 10g2 and 10g3 are basically the same tablets but with the G3 having more RAM is this correct?

If I got a firmware dump of the G3 ROM I could use that as a base for CM9? saves "cooking" a new kernal etc?

Does anyone have a 10b G3 Dump?

We flashed a zte v9 CM7.2 firmware on our arnova 7c g2, after that we modified the drivers, we used the stock kernel from the arnova and then with adb logcat we solved the 3d accel, gps, bluetoth but is a work of trial and error, very hard for one person.

The 10b G3 is a 10b G2 updated with ICS and more RAM (1 Gb vs 512 Mb), the 10 G2 is a different product (in term of tablet case, connectivity and drivers).

The 10b G3 firmware dump is here, thanks to J_Weidner.

Getting a CM9 from that is probably a lot of work, and some parts may not even be possible considering we don't have the source code for the 10b G3 kernel.

Cheers.

Surely its against the GPL for arnova to not release the drivers? Isn't there anything we can do to try and force it outta them? like make a report to google or something?

You think Google is the one who should deal with it?

Any progress on making a custom rom for the G3? Maybe even Jelly Bean would be possible?

Volontary developing would be highly appreciated!
