Hi
I re-flashed my new 10b G3. It works great now, but there is no option to move apps to the SD card. Should there be does anyone know?
Also, in settings --> apps, it appears that there is only 500MB of internal storage, whereas in settings --> storage, it shows as 2GB. Is something wrong here?
Thanks for your help!
Phil.

I tried 'links2sd' app and it seems to work on 2gig microsd card I tested it on, you must first make sure you have 2 primary partitions on the sd card, I made one FAT (as using a 2gig card) and the second EXT2, then restart the Arnova with the sd card in and EXT2 partition should auto mount so then you can use links2sd to move the apps to that partition.
I used "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" from http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html to create two primary partitions in Windows 7, if you try this make sure you don't make changes to the wrong partition like the one your OS is on!
I'm unable to fully test this as it's my wife's tablet 🙂
I hope this helps.

Hi
Thanks for this, I tried it but no joy. I'm no expert at this, but I created two primary partitions on a 4GB SD card as you said, trying FAT and EXT2. I formatted them. The Arnova just says it doesn't recognise the card, offers to format it but then hangs.
Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks again!

I can't have a look atm as the mrs won't let go of it & I removed the microsd card I used as a test as I'm waiting for a 32GB card to arrive, did you turn off the tablet then insert the card so that it mounts the ext partition when it starts up as never had the tablet asking to format, formatting should be ok though as it won't remove the partitions you created.

After doing some reading about this and communicating with a developer who is very familiar with these tablets, I have found that ICS file structure takes away the ability to run apps from SD on purpose. First of all, these newer tablets have improved performance if using ext3 or ext4 file systems. If you are running apps from an external sd, formatted in fat, it slows your tablets performance.
It is better to find a ROM that expands your internal app space than to sacrifice performance by trying to run your apps from a much slower sd. It is kind of like trying to run a program on your pc from a floppy disk. It worked well for a while, but we had to move on.
I know it is frustrating, but we have to adapt as the technology adapts.
I use the heck out of my external sd for my music, videos and and pictures.
Thanks for these explanations Randy
Just a reminder, to those looking for extended storage space for Apps (/data partition), our custom firmware with 1 Gb (instead of the default 512 Mb) space is available here

Please use with Rockchip tool to flash the firmware.
Cheers.

well about the ext4 formatted file systems we always can modify our micro sd card to this type file system with partition tool so there is no excuse for not be able to use an external sd card to store our applications..we need to find a solution and i think if our well trained programmers could make an application that has the option to choose where we want to move the applications and read the micro sd card as a third partition (cause arnova system has 2 internal partitions and the second one reads it as an external-not the micro sd)there is the link to sd app it works fine but be sure you install the apk file to your internal storage at first and then link it to external (there is an option which allows you to select where to install the applications but if you choose to install them directly to external you ll get a "not enough space" error message )

Is it possible to make a custom firmware with more storage space like 2GB 2.5GB 3GB ?
I've recently increased it to 2 Gb for another tablet that comes with 16 Gb storage. I haven't yet tried higher values, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense to reserve more than half the flash memory size for apps, knowing that Android and other system files already takes several hundreds megabytes.
I'll probably do a custom version with 2 Gb on next firmware update (release date unknown).
Cheers.
