Can you see the tablet or an unknow device in Windows device manager ?

Also have you tried to turn off automatic drivers installation on Windows ? (see troubleshooting section here: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/flashing-arnova-g2-rockchip-2918-rockchip-flashing-tool/)

Do not switch your unit off before putting it in recovery mode (=pressing the reset+volume buttons)

thanks, but i have also tried that and when i release the recovery button then all i get is a double dunk error noise and nothing happens.

the instructions for installing google play states to make sure tablet is off, very confusing but i hav tried both ways without success Frown

It's best to start with the tablet off, but enabling flashing mode with Reset and Vol+ should also work from a running tablet.

You'll know you've entered it if the tablet screen is off, it should not display Arnova logo or anything else. Have you checked the (second) video in the Blog article ?

Have you downloaded the correct rockchip thingy for your device?  Mine is an .inf file, which worked when I was finally able to do the reset thingy properly.  Then, even though the tablet was blank, windows picked it up as a new device and I was able to go to the correct folder and the .inf file that was in the 'drivers [xp]' folder worked.  As soon as that happened the Rochchip thingy recognised my tablet and, following the instructions on the video, I was able to upgrade!  As I said before: if a 65 year old great granny can do it - anybody can!  Good luck and don't give up.  Leave it a few hours or overnight and try again.Smile

Thanks to Excellator for the instructions on driver install.  I really am a techno biff but am now the proud owner of a Play Store app on my 10b G3 (in the UK).  So truely anyone can do it.  Patience is the key.  Some experiences I had I would like to share;

In preparation I noted the build standard so I had the correct driver in mind Win 7 32Bit.

Placed the update from the Kasty file on the desktop.

Chose the correct size pin for the reset hole (you can feel a rocker depress whilst entering recovery/flashing mode).

Changed the device installation settings as descibed in the trouble shooting section of the Rockchip Flasher Tool.

Followed the instructions, but every time I tried to enter recovery with the tablet off it started coming on.  Therefore as others had done I tried it whilst on, saw the volume go up as the + vol key was depressed then inserted the pin and low and behold the screen went blank after several seconds.  At the same time saw a pop up on screen that told me a USB device wasn't recognised.  Went into device manager and found an unrecognised device but this wasn't under the USB's but elsewhere highlighted with a little yellow triangle then proceeded to load the driver .  Didn't work the first time as I had unloaded the driver to my desktop but the drver search only went as far down as folders not files.  Placed the driver back inside the folder and tried again and asked it to load from the driver folder; lo and behold it started loading.

After a little jig of appreciation (was this premature?) I continued to follow the instructions.  Download started and finished minutes later, tablet sparked into life and having gone through all the custom set up on the Arnova there it was the "Grail" - Play Store.  Downloaded the Mrs's fave TV app and the whole expense of the purchase was justified as I had promised her.

Apologies if this was simplistic but that's me.  But if I could say thanks to (if you can use this term in a friendly way) the geeks out there who developed this firmware update.

With regard to Gouranga well theres over 110 years between us.  A challenge to you young uns if ever I saw one Wink.

My Story, firstly I was having problems getting tablet in recovery mode when usb cable was inserted. Instead of following instructions I pressed VOL + then insirted paper clip into reset hole, held both for a couple of seconds then removed paper clip first followed bu VOL + this then put Arnova into recovery.

Other problem I had was trying to install driver, this failed evry time. So, I disabled USB debugging on tablet  then re plugged in Arnova and let windows install Arnova drivers. Once complete, I did the reset procedure above and everything worked as described. I now have the new firmware installed.

BTW im on Windows Vista.

I'm glad that most of you got it working and a bit sorry if the instructions are not that clear as they should be.

Hi, To all those struggling to get into recovery mode, I had the same problem. What I did was connect the tablet to the computer and let it install the driver. I then went to 'devices and printers' and uninstalled the driver. To get the tablet into recovery mode, leave it on, press vol+ for a couple of seconds, whilst vol+ is pressed, insert paperclip into reset hole. Hold it there for more than 15 seconds. Remove the paperclip, but still keep hold of vol+. Let it go after a couple of seconds.

I kept on letting go of both at the same time, which just caused the tablet to reset.

It now works in all of its rooted glory. Nice to have the play store as well. It even seems to run smoother. Before it wouldn't play iplayer or netflix, now neither are an issue. Laugh

Hope this helps.

Am I also going crazy, spent until 1:30 in the morning and all early thismorning trying to get all this to work with my 8b G3.

Cannot get the thing into flashing mode, pushing + and reset seems to just simply reset the machine no matter how long I hold them in.

An "unknown device" showing in device manager on both windows 7 32/64 bit (I have tried two machines) - but this device disappears as soon as I release the reset button.

I have tried, one handedly, to install the usb driver from the rockchip folders - windows just keeps saying that the driver installed is the best option, even though it's unknown.

Maybe I have assumed that the 10b 3G would have the same hardware, just a bigger screen.

I have had other tablets and have never had a problem installing stuff like this - I tend to try many angles and always get there - this one has beaten me!

Some advice would be amazing....

Chris
