Thanks for your kind words. It takes some effort to build proper firmwares, make documentation and help people around. The moderators on the forum are great support with helping and it's good also to have people like you giving some hands around.

I'm glad you put some efforts in trying to flash your tablet and it worked !

Regarding the new Android 4.1 (aka Jelly Bean, JB), I'm not too sure Arnova will make it available on the G3, like they did not make Android 4.0 available for Arnova G2, while it would be technically possible Confused

Cheers.

The test firmware has been reported to work on many devices, so we've published the update.

Please check post #1 and blog article.
Cheers.

Based on the users reports regarding tablets recently bought in Belgium, Germany and Holland, I initially thought about some hardware changes on the newer tablets. It does not seem to be the case or at least the new firmware (manufacturer's build time 2012/05/23) found on a recent tablets works on both older and newer models.

I haven't pushed investigations any further for now.

Cheers.

I have received a few requests to increase the disk space available to the applications (aka /data partition).

Here is a test firmware based on our version 0.42 with /data increased to 500 Mb to ~1 Gb.

Download: http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova10bG3/kasty-arn10bg3-40-042-1G.zip

Please use with Rockchip tool to flash the firmware.

Cheers.

Arnova 10b G3 flahed and works !!
Thank you very much arctablet ! 🙂

For those who have problems entering flashing mode, try to :
- Hold "Vol+".
- Then press and hold "Reset" too, during 15 sec.
- Release "Reset".
- Wait 1sec, then release "Vol+".

And then, if Windows doesn't ask you for drivers, try to search in the Windows Device Manager, you'll see an unrecognized device. Just update this device's drivers with those in the Rockchip flasher tool's archive.
You should now see the tablet in the flasher tool.

Hello,

I am a new user of the Arnova 10B G3 capacitive tablet 🙂

Updated succesfully with 0.42 unlocked firmware. Everything works OK for now, thanks a lot !

Just one comment (was valid also before the FW flash): I think the wifi device on the tablet is quite weak. It can work nicely with some access points, and badly with some others. Just to see if this is "normal", or if I have a faulty Wifi module on the tablet, do you know any good Android app to monitor the wifi system & connection ?

Cheers,

Stellar7

Thanks for your comments. I also find the 10b G3 is little weak on the Wi-FI. I haven't measured it precisely yet. You can use WIFI analyzer to get some information about the Wi-FI signal on your network.

Cheers.

In the last few days, I have tried all versions of this ROM using the different kernels, including an alpha done by finless (based on the 2nd kernel).

What I have found is that wifi was really unreliable under the previous kernels.  I'm testing the latest Kasty version today to see if Arnova fixed the wifi problems with that last kernel version.  On the others, I ran into problems loosing internet after about 30 minutes, or dropping the IP address and never being able to reconnect (one ROM did it the first way, another ROM did the other way).

So far, I haven't run into that problem yet with this new ROM.

I did try the 1gb version, which slowed my tablet way way down, to the point that I had to go back to the 500ish version.  It is a little laggy, but much more useful (in comparison to the other previous ROM's).  By laggy, I mean that there is more of a delay in response to typing with the keypad.  Believe me, I can tell right away which ROM I'm using based on keypad responsiveness.  The Finless ROM has the fastest response so far, but has the worst wifi problems, so I can't stick with that.

One other thing that kind of urks me about ICS is that default the settings don't allow you to write to the external sd.  I had to go in, on each of these ROM's and edit the platform.xml with media_rw under the permissions for write external storage.  I hope that future versions can be modified as such so this is the default setting (hint, hint).  I know all about the new ICS standard, but if I didn't care where MY FILES are stored on my device, I would buy an iPad.

Anyway, I appreciate all of the work done on this tablet by you developers.  I'm excited about the possibilities.  My 10g2 is much more reliable right now, though.  I know that the 10bG3 is still a work in progress...both for the community, and apparently for Arnova, since so many different kernels are cropping up without notice based on where in the world they are being sold.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm interested in testing your modifications and including them in next custom firmware release if they lead to great results.

I've checked /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml and I found already in:

<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
</permission>

<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" >
<group gid="media_rw" />
</permission>

So I was wondering which settings did you change ?

Cheers.
