The Arnova 10b G3 tablet is a product refresh of the Arnova 10b G2 best seller, updated with latest Android 4.03 Ice Cream Sandwich and 1 Gb of RAM. The lack of Google Play (formerly Android Market) support is one the biggest inconvenience on the device, we are happy to bring you a solution. Here is a custom firmware to add Google Play/Android Market, Google Face Unlock support, full root with write access to /system.

Image Enlarger

We have published an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Arnova 10b G3,
don't forget to check it !
This firmware is for the Arnova 10b G3 capacitive screen model only, don't flash it if you have a resistive (DT or Dual Touch) model. The compatibility issues have been resolved with the latest firmware dump (thanks J_Weidner) and the custom firmware is reported to work on all old and new Arnova 10b G3 capacitive models.

Arnova 10b G3 custom firmware features

  • Clean installation of latest Google Play Store 3.5.15, no more missing apps (Twitter, Facebook...)
  • Full root support with writable /system partition
  • Root access is controled thru SuperSU.apk v0.89 (free version), a cool upgrade to SuperUser.apk by XDA developer Chainfire
  • Updated Rockchip loader to latest version (2.20)
  • Added Face Unlock feature from XDA dev
  • Face unlock works reasonnably well considering the relatively low camera resolution (0.3 Mpix)

Quick demo of the Face Unlock feature on an Arnova 9 G2 running a custom ICS firmware.

Our custom firmware can be installed in two ways. The first method is the easiest and will let you have Google Play running in about 10 minutes. The second method erases all the data stored on the tablet, but uses a safer approach.

Arnova 10b G3 custom firmware install easy procedure

Please note that this flashing method is easy to run but includes the same risks as a regular firmware flash. If it goes wrong…

Do not switch your unit off before putting it in recovery mode (=pressing the reset+volume buttons)

My PC recognises the Tablet as a USB but when I go to the driver and try to install by double clicking it says it cannot be opened and must be associated with another programme. Can someone advise me on where I go from here?  What do I do with the Driver?

I am running Windows 7 premium 32 Bit and have turned off auto driver updates as stated in the instructions.

How do you mean, install it by double clicking and needing another programme? What you need to do, is to first put your device in recovery mode. Then go to your device manager, you should see an unknown device, right click on it and click on update usb driver(or whatever, my windows is not in English); select search for drivers on the pc and navigate to the directory with the appropiate driver (no double clicking on the driver itself, just click ok when you found the directory)

Hmm... Noticed you said the following:

in the reset and vol+ chucks it into the recovery mode, just with the usb it does not work damn damn

All I can advise is to try again with doing exactly the same and may be even trying another usb cable. Or wait for admin to help you out with possible different solutions. ūüėõ

    Hi folks

It took me ages and I ended up doing it via my laptop as the PC kept on recognising the tablet and installing a driver for it.  Someone above saved my bacon by advising that, sometimes when you stick your pin in the little hole, it doesn't actually switch anything on or off.  He advised checking that when you press you actually feel a switch being switched.  That's what I did in the end.

Many thanks to the developer as I have loads of apps in Google Market (now Play), and would have been very upset not being able to use them.

Now then, I am a 65 year old female pensioner, if I can do it anyone can!  Keep trying.Wink

It's best to start with the tablet off, but enabling flashing mode with Reset and Vol+ should also work from a running tablet.

You'll know you've entered it if the tablet screen is off, it should not display Arnova logo or anything else. Have you checked the (second) video in the Blog article ?

Glad to hear you finally got it working.

This custom firmware isn't really development, Google made the hardware work producing Play / Android Market and great apps, we've just been making them fit in the vendor firmware that wasn't made for it.

Everybody should be able to run the flashing procedure, we've tried make it clear as possible, but it's always good to have feedback if things should be explained differently...

Have fun with your tablet Wink

    Cheers.

    Thank you.

Good luck to all who are trying.  Follow the instructions for your particular model from: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/flashing-arnova-g2-rockchip-2918-rockchip-flashing-tool/  and that will get you flashed, then refer to the video at the top of this page for installing the new stuff.  Smile
