Our custom firmware provides Google Play (Android Market) access on the Arnova 10b G3. It seems there have been a few users who haven't been able to install this custom firmware so I've made an easier way of flashing it. This is valid only for the Arnova 10b G3 capacitive model, don't try it on a resistive Dual Touch (DT) model.
Please note that this flashing method is easy to run but includes the same risks as a regular firmware flash. If it goes wrong for some reason and bricks your tablet, the only way to recover it (if the hardware isn't damaged) will be to use Rockchip Flashing tool. In this situation, for those who couldn't get the flashing tool to work, they may get stuck in restoring their tablet.
- Step 1. You need to download and install Arctools from Appslib.
If you don't have Appslib installed, you'll need to download it from here: http://appslib.com/download/index.html
When in Appslib, search for "Arctools", download and install the application.
- Step 2. Within Arctools, go to Firmware tab, select the custom firmware to flash from the listbox (latest is currently version 0.41a) please read and understand the warnings and click the checkbox if you agree, then click the Download button. The file download and unpacking should take a few minutes to complete depending on your Internet connection speed. When it's done, you'll be invited to restart your tablet.
- Step 3. After rebooting the tablet, a "Firmware updating" dialog will ask for confirmation to install the package (=flash the firmware) click Install button. The tablet will reboot and install the firmware.
- Step 4. After a few minutes, your tablet will be updated with the custom firmware. Setup your Account on Google Play Store and enjoy !
The following video goes thru all the procedure steps on an Arnova 7f G3, it works the same on the 10b G3.

I was one of the many, unable to get my Tablet into flashing mode, so I was eagerly awaiting this new method. All progressed well, and was the same as the video exactly.
After the installation was complete, I was concerned that all of my existing apps and bookmarks were still on the home screen, but when I went to the apps section the new Play app was there, however when I tried it, the window opened for a short while, with no option to sign in, and then went back to the apps screen.
As the play app was added to my Tablet, I feel the firmware was successfully. I wonder as my Tablet is less than a week old, might it not be fully compatible with this upgrade.
Kernal version 3.0.8+
Very Odd, I can flash the new firmware using the original flashing method time and time again, but the verion via arctools fails, it downloads and unpacks, but following reboot it says failed. Tried this three times with the same result. So resulted in using rockchip method again instead.
Only bought my arnova 10b G3 on Friday and was so upset and disappointed. The Applib was a waste of time. I was unable to download books and read them from any of the bookstore apps. I followed your instructions and fantastic it worked. I am now using Google play etc and it's wonderful. Doing everything I bought it for. It was so easy to follow and I am not clued up at all. Thanks once again .
I've just flashed my tab with the arctools tool, everything went ok. I'm not sure why but all my aps were still there ( I was expecting to have to install them again). Still can't get I player to work properly though .......... buffering all the time and running miles out of sinc. Oh well can't win them all.
I finally upgraded using this easy method, and it worked, but not without some issues
After the first install, the screen would not respond, so I could not select 'Yes' on the final prompt. I had to restart the tablet to get it to respond, and was faced with an 'install did not complete' prompt. Google Play was there, but I got an error message if I tried to download any apps.
I tried the set up again, but it only got about half way before I got a failed message.
About to give up, I just restarted the tablet and to my surprise all is working including Google Play 🙂
I'm not convinced it installed completely correctly, or what I did, but hey, it's working, so I'm happy 🙂
Forgot to add - so far I have been faced with 2 apps that will not install.
I get a "Couldnt install on USB storage or SD card" message. Is this because the apps are not made for tablets or there is insufficent space on the internal storage? The app is 18MB and I apparently have 148MB available, so I dont understand?
Success at last,
I used both the flashing method, then this easier method, and also copying and pasting, all had the same result, the Play icon was there but it would only try to open briefly, then close straight away. I got the feeling that the tablet was getting very sluggish, and unresponsive.
As I had found another method to get apps from Play (next post). I reluctantly admitted defeat, and decided to go through the tablets settings to the full reset option to get back to where I was before these attempts to upgrade.
After backing up my purchased apps, and following the on screen prompts. The tablet started right from the beginning again, language, time zone, installing the bundled apps, etc.
At this point gmail, Play were both working perfectly.
I now have a relatively cheap tablet, but with the full access to the vast array of quality apps.
Thanks to all concerned
Market apps without Play Store.
Nothing clever about this, as I thought of trying it myself, it must be obvious to many.
As I had an android phone with access to the Play Store, I thought I would try backing up one of my apps to my sd card with a file manager, once the .apk file was on the sd card, I could upload it with Dropbox. Once Dropbox is on your tablet, all apps handled this way will install straight from Dropbox.
Dropbox can be installed on your tablet from AppsLib, and AppsLib will never be used again
The following users say thank you to iww for this useful post:Rozza
