FYI

Many of the 13 'Android.Counterclank'-infected apps remain on the Android Market

Computerworld - The largest-ever Android malware campaign may have duped as many as 5 million users into downloading infected apps from Google's Android Market, Symantec said today.

Dubbed "Android.Counterclank" by Symantec, the malware was packaged in 13 different apps from three different publishers, with titles ranging from "Sexy Girls Puzzle" to "Counter Strike Ground Force." Many of the infected apps were still available on the Android Market as of 3 p.m. ET Friday.

Cheers for that info,
I have installed apps and than you get pop up notifications
In the top bar saying there are updates to battery saver, apps
That are not even installed, maybe an anti virus may be a good idea

Oh dear, looks like Symantec may have jumped the gun a bit! According to Look Out mobile security it is not malware but what they call "aggressive" advertising! The software is legit but uses "push advertising" not great but not malware either.

Ok, however to protect our devices in future, is there an App to detect & clean up any Malware similar to MAB that does a good job on desktops. Also having an unrooted device, does this give better protection to keep viruses getting hold of critical system files?

Theres only ever been a handfull of viruses and even theyve not done much.

Ive never had any anti virus on any android device and have never had a virus yet.

Tbh the anti virus apps were a way on scaring people into buying the apps.
As of now there have been only a handfull on harmless viruses.

I dont think youd get a full blown virus into the android market. Youd stand a better chance of infecting the iphone
