10G2 user said

I've installed EZ custom firmware and it works! Thanks!

Some feedback on my (wrong) assumptions and decisions might help you if you install EZ:

Embarassed 10G2 got bricked after the 10 minutes procedure. Well, actually it gave a parse error and I rebooted anyway before it got bricked. I then decided to flash the EZ firmware.

Embarassed Took me a false attempt to notice the EZ firmware cannot be flashed with the ''standard'' flashing tool RKBatchTool.exe, but requires the alternative RKAndroid Tool v1.29 (RK29update.exe Windows application).

Embarassed After spending some minutes trying to find this RK29update.exe on the forum, I saw it is included in the download of the EZ package.

Embarassed It took me a a couple of tries to get the 10G2 in the recovery mode (pressing + and reset for approx. 15 seconds). The screen did go black each time... Maybe I pressed both buttons too long?

Laugh The img files then got flashed easily and the 10G2 booted like a dream. Last version of Market installed with arc tools 0.57 also like a dream.

EmbarassedMarket fully worked, but then I missed one app. So to be sure I applied the Market fix (clearing cache from market app, and data from another), but that in fact introduced the ''market missing apps'' issue. The fix then didn't work. I solved it eventually by deliberately screwing up the market app (I removed the data) and then reinstalled it with arctools. Later turned out that the app I was initially missing was not released for 10G2 and was therefore filtered from the market app-results....

Only thing I notice now is that after rebooting, the callibration program crashes. But who cares about that? I don't.

Thanks again for the fine firmware and access to the market!

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for all the problems you went thru.

The EZ firmware was made to be flashed from the tablet, without a computer and the need to run the Rockchip flashing tool. In some case of a "bricked" tablet, this tool is useful to flash again the firmware on the device.

The Market fix is actually Clearing data on the Market application. It should be sufficient to be able to see all applications in Android Market.

Finally, per users demand, I have slightly modified the EZ firmware so Android Market is directly installed and Arctools isn't necessary. I hope it will make things a little easier for everybody. I'll update the Blog post and video to reflect those changes.

Thanks for all your work on this.

I've followed your instructions for flashing the firmware via arctool. the firmware file downloads, unpacks and I get the message to restart but restarting doesn't do anything eg it's not reflashed as everything is just as it was - wifi still on, no apps lost, etc.

any suggestions? the 10 g2 doesn't have a restart.option so I'm just doing a shut down and then starting as normal.

Sometimes the tablet does not detect the new firmware to install. Can you try the procedure again ?
There is actually no restart option, this is done thru a Shutdown then powering up the tablet again.
You can also download the firmware from this page (see above) and follow Arnova procedure for firmware update.

The firmware has been recently updated to version 1.1 which now has Android Market installed. After flashing the firmware, you don't need to reinstall Arctools and download/install Apps anymore, the Market should already be installed. The procedure from this article and the video will be updated soon to reflect those changes.

I added this update to my new tablet and all worked fine, I had access to android market but there were very few apps in it. I followed the instructions but am now faced with 'server error' every time I try to access the market any ideas?

Try to "Reset Market" in Arctools (version 0.63 or later needed). Allow Superuser access to have the Market data file cleared (repeat 4 times). Then reboot immediately the tablet and restart the Market. It should be fine then.

Just push the Empty data button for Market in the Applications Settings.
Then restart the Market.

Heya, Was looking to do this, however you locate the Arctools in the Market initially, My tablet has no access to Market at all, Which is what I'm trying to get.

Any further advice?

Many thanks, Nate.

I've used the procedure on my arnova 10G2 8GB and it seems to work fine since i have the market installed.

But when i enter the Market, i use my Gmail account to log in and after trying to contact google server i've got an error saying "couldn't etablish a reliable connection" or something like that...

any idea ?

Edit : after re-installing the latest Arnova Firmware, i've re-done the procedure and it works; Thanks for the great work !

Is this safe to use for a 4GB version? Or only the 8GB? Thanks
