I have arnova 10 G2, I installed a new firmware in my laptop and copy it to arnova, but I dont know wheres the root folder to start updating, plz can u tell me where I should copy the new firmware???
my tablet doesnt has arabic language, so can I install software to read and write arabic language???
thanks alot for all of u for concern
I just followed the steps here on the guide and I have marketplace working. I've also already installed the facebook app and it is working just fine. I'm very pleased with the Arnova 10 G2 so far even though it came pre-installed with appslib. I tried a few apps from the store and they all did not work. Now that I have marketplace I think this tablet is going to be perfect for my wife.
I loaded the subdirectories from the "Set up Google apps.rar" archive to the SD card. I then just went to the files program and then viewed the SD Card. I went to the app/ folder on the SD card and clicked the .apk packages in order as they are listed here to install.
I'm not sure if I should have done this from my internal storage or not as it looks like two new directories were created on my SD card after the installs were done. I now have a media/ and an Android/ folder so I don't know if the google apps are running from the SD card or if I can clean the SD card off.
I wouldn't mind rooting this system (i'm still watching the other post on the rom) but for my wife all she needs is browser, marketplace (access to apps), and facebook. Thanks again arctablet. This site has been a lifesaver.
Btw, I really liked appslib. It had a very user friendly interface IMO but obviously right now something is wrong with the apps quality that it hosts.
Daft, for a guy who types a lot, you're not providing a whole lot of helpful information
Your reply entirely misunderstood the comments I helpfully typed for you. If you care about the issues, I will make one last attempt to address them. But if you already have a trigger finger itching to attack, then don't bother - that is inappropriate for this forum, and just plain silly against people trying to answer you
"1) That appslib was giving you the wrong thing by the same name."
It was the ONLY Nook app. Do a search and prove me wrong.
"2) That appslib is needlessly omitting apps. Appreciate appslib!! It is a blessing and a freebie."
A) Again, it was the ONLY Nook app, and all the reviews I saw at the time were from people complaining that it didn't work.
B) The OFFICIAL Nook app is ALREADY free. Applibs isn't doing me a favor by hosting a free, albeit non-working version.
You said appslib gave you FB/Nook versions written by the wrong people. There is nothing unfair about that! The user must check the authorship before download. "Free" apps are often not free except to known user types who are classified based on marketing issues. So appslib may not be allowed to provide it to you, while google may.
But google market has been cutting back on a lot of apps for Archos users, so if you lose your copy they won't let you redownload it. So take heed from people with experience - you can download "free" apps at certain times and places, but better learn how to make an .apk backup copy or being flexible about looking elsewhere.
That said, I can see the correct version of Nook on my appslib - my filter flags must be configured better than yours. Both appslib and google market may have dozens of apps for any particular name. When you ask for one, they apply a filter based on the device they think you have, android version, and maybe likelyhood you will pay for more services. They may cut you off if too many folks with your device type give low ratings because of some minor complaint for instance.
"As for another's comment on the "old" version of google market on this unrooted approach: Who says it is old, and why?"
There have been several posts throughout these threads about various versions of Android Market. For a guy with 38 posts, I would have guessed you might have run across a few while you've been posting here. Apparently not. If you are going to accuse people of being wrong about things, at least have the decency to do your own research first.
You are talking about versions of Marketplace "interface page", not the actual market of available products. The "available products" is the relevant issue of towering importance. There doesn't appear to be any difference of apps you can download with old vs new interface.
The "old interface page" issue seems trivial to me. I don't mind the old interface - the new just shoves marketing stuff in your face. The old look doesn't seem to mean you get old or wrong apps (maybe can't get media files?). Maybe the new version bothers me because of years of experience with Google market getting less libertarian and more hardcore marketeering like Apple or Kindle.
Back on topic....@heygoogoo, it looks like you're in the exact same situation I'm in in regards to getting this thing to work for the wife. I'm not surprised to see I'm not the only one having problems with the appslib Nook software.
As to your new install, Have you tried running those programs without the SD card inserted, to see if they still work?
I'm looking forward to finless' new ROM as well. The tablet works fine now, but I'd love a faster boot-up and more app memory. I'll probably wait until after Xmas, so my wife can enjoy her new present.
@rakana - "but I dont know wheres the root folder to start updating, plz can u tell me where I should copy the new firmware???"
The root folder is the first/main folder you come to when you access the tablet through the file manager, either through the installed file manager or through windows. It would be like C:\
Just place the image file in there, and when you remove the USB cable, it should prompt you to install the image file. As to an arabic language version, I don't know.
hey, thanks for this, works a treat on mine, the only thing was I lost a load of the preloaded stuff, including appslib, but I found it hiding in one of the directories and had to use that to reinstall flash 10.3.
I know there's been a lot of 'discussion' of the need of a newer market, the only reason I would want a newer one is it seems to have content controls, as this is for my 8 year old, I would appreciate the newer one. Is there a way of getting it without rooting?
Yeah, I'm definitely going to wait til after xmas to mess with my wife's gift anymore. I am noticing some issues with the gmail app and of course locations do not work because there is no GPS. I also tried to allow location through wifi and that didn't work so those apps are not usable. The mail app that is pre-installed actually works good with my wife's gmail account so I'm still in good shape. Also, she has a phone with Android2.3 that's on a cellular network and it has GPS so she'd use that for locations and navigating so I'm still in good shape. I loaded Google+ app on it today and it can't connect to the server. It seems the google apps are going to have problems with this method.
She may be able to just use her Google+ through a browser. However, I just loaded one of the picasa apps "picasa tool" and it installed and connected great. So, I think apps with 3rd party developers google services are working fine but official google apps are not?
One little thing I noticed with Google Maps is that even though I can view the maps without GPS, I apparently cannot rotate the maps. This is not a biggie per se, but it would have been nice. I did see an app on on the market that allows a non-GPS unit to tether to the GPS of another unit. I might try that just to see how well it works.
I wasn't aware at the time I ordered it that the Arnova didn't have GPS. I might have bought this unit regardless, and she probably won't ever really need GPS on this tablet.....but it would have been nice to have. Other than that and boot-up, though, I really can't complain. Have you tried Frontline Commando on this thing? It's a free download, and it really shows off the graphics of this unit.
As to 3rd party apps...the appslib FB and Nook apps did not work on the stock Anovos setup. Period. If I hadn't found these boards, or was some average Joe trying to use this thing out of the box for these purposes, then this tablet would have failed miserably. I also had issues with the built-in Maps app attempting to access the non-existent GPS. If you're going to have pre-installed software, then you better make sure the software is set up correctly for the hardware. Again, downloading Google Maps from the Android market solved this problem.
Hi All. I wanted to try and get market installed on the official rom. I installed the latest update from the arnova website. I then had a look at the htcmania website and found a link for this file:
This holds some of the gapps. (At the moment megaupload seems to be down for me. Probs just me).
Extract the files, transfer the files and then install the apks using file manager in this order:
-1.Google Services Framework
-6.Vending I have now got the market working without root!! It's not the latest version but I'm sure I can download that and sideload it! Hope this helps some people out as I have been looking around for this for a while! ultimodiablo
I am very new to all this and have bought an Arnova 10 G2 for my son. I have two questions if somebody would like to help me.
1) I have downloaded and extracted the apks files to my PC. Where do I save these on the tablet and what do you mean by install them from the file manager? Do you double click them or something?
2) Do I need to install all 6 if I just want android market? i.e. can I just install file 6 - Vending?
I have installed the files as suggested and have succsesfully added Gmail and Android Market. However, the market application does not seem to be giving me a full directory of files. For example I can not find the official Facebook or Twitter app.
Can anyone advise me if I need to do something else?
I have rebooted serveral times but this has not made any difference.
the market place app is an old version but most apps are still available, if you dont see the app you want you can go to the official market place website through your tablet , when you click on the app it will recognize your tablet and download the app no problem.
Idid this with bbc iplayer which i couldnt find on the market place app
ive also tried a few more just to make sure it worked
