I am about to try Gerry`s market installation, but I have not updated the 10 G2 firmware as recommended because the Arnova firmware details available for download  indicate it is the initial version 1.0 dated 10 Oct 2012. I bought my machine in March 2012, so am I thick in assuming it will already have the latest version installed?

Now that Google has changed the name from Android market to Google Play, presumably with version changes, will Gerry`s method still result in  working access?

Finally !!!!, if I can`t get it to work, or if I have problems accessing other things on the tablet or into the outside world, will I be able to revert to its previous state just by uninstalling the stuff I installed for it?

As you may have gathered from the above I know nothing about Android systems, protocols and workings, as all my experience has been with windows, so far. Sorry for the novice queries

Thanks in advance for you help, guidance and patience with such a noddy as me!!!!

Hi

It would not hurt to install the Oct 2011 version making sure that you have the correct version of software.

Gerry's market install gives you the Market rather than Play but you still get all the latest apps etc. And works very well.

The beauty of Gerry's installation is that you do not need your device to be rooted and if you want to revert back to stock you just uninstall it.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Ian

Thanks for that.

I was hoping not to have to install the "latest" firmware, since the Arnova information suggested(?) that I would lose my installed apps and would have to reinstall them - not that this is a particularly onerous task, but as I said in my original post I am an extreme Android newbie and don`t yet have the confidence to get in amongst it in case I muck something up and can`t find a way out.

On the basis of your response that my proposal would give me just the market, rather than play, would you recommend I took the plunge and went down the Kasty EZ firmware route, or even some other one?

I have a gmail account and have had a nosey around Google Play from that, but it won`t let me download anything as there is nothing registered. Google maps street view opens, but doesn`t seem to work very effectively, so is useless. What extra would I get from  the EZ mod?

Thanks
