Been using Finless firmware for about 3 weeks, when I saw this I couldn't resist the temptation.
Bit quicker to boot, and more memory available, no major problems found except the tablet refused to 'power down' and just froze on one occasion, had to be reset to regain response.

its very easy to install "Rock USB" driver
1)- just turn off ur arnova 10G2
2)-just plug ur usb and cable power if you don't have enough charge on it , you can se he just flash to open after that
3)-press reset with a little thing and then press bottom" volume +" , after that just release the reset bottom your windows gonna try to install the driver, is not but after that you can release your volume +
4)- go to "device manager" right click on "Unknown device" click on "update driver "
5)- click on "Browse my computer for driver software"
6)-click on ""Let me pick from a list of driver........... after that click next
7)- after that click on" have disk "
8)- after that click on Browse and then select the " rock usd driver" and then click "ok"
and then click install........

Hi Guys,

Managed to get the rock chip flasher installed BUT looking at the zip download, there seem to be a number of .img files. WHICh one should I be using to flash.

Sorry about being a real noob with this, but I am learning slowly, and would really like to get this sorted as I have 2 more to do as well as mine.

Make sure the rockchip flashing tool is in the same directory as the unzipped ROM.  The Rockchip flashing tool will pull the images and flash them.

My directory (on the PC) looks like this:

[folder]drivers

[folder]image

[folder]Language

[folder]log

rk29update.exe

rkusbComm.dll

settings.ini

Not sure whether you need all of those, but that's what my install directory looked like.  I ran the executable and it took over from there.

Cheers Harold.

I did download the rockchip flash kit separately but did notice it in the zip. I'll give that a whirl, and see what happens.

If i happen to mess things up, I'm assuming that i can use the current firmware image download from arnova to re-flash back to standard

No, don't get it from Appslib. That will be a later version which does not work as well with the rooted firmware. Get v.57 which is available in the right hand column from the home page here.

Harold, smeeghead

There should be no compatibility problem with Arctools recent releases (including latest 0.62) with this firmware as it was configured specifically to support Arctools.

I believe we had some problems with some older firmwares due to some configuration bugs (I am not blaming anyone Wink) or issues in Arctools that are still to be investigated.

The debate over the Finless and Kasty roms has grown legs of it's own. I am a novice in many regards however for someone that began writting simple math progams one line at a time and in electronics school there was still vacuum tubes I can tell you that I truly appreciate the work that was done and is in the works. As a cooker I am sure that Finless has hidden signatures in his rom. I have followed these forums both sites and have been a big fan of Finless. In all of the post I have yet to see him take exclusive credit and not thank contributions from all other sources. Up until now all contributors have managed to put together a great ROM and the combined efforts was truly a thing of beauty!! I questioned the reason to create anothere rom in the first place when there was such a great product already that could easily be great. Finless 1.3 already had the Market installed with the flash. Why take a step back and remove it adding additional steps and requiring Arctools unless the creator of Arctools felt like it was deleted from the process. Having flashed in both ways I can tell you that the 1.3 was so easy and seamless. I can fully understand why Finless is upset and deservingly so and for it to be said that his work was not supported was uncalled for, could have been worded differently. And for this he deserves an apology. There are many novices out there that are looking for the easiest and plain ways to get their tablets up to speed. Guys your combined efforts have managed to take a so so tablet and turned it into one of the finest Android tablets without spending twice the money. Be proud of what you have accomplished and take satisfaction knowing that you have helped so many and the edjoyment that it will bring. As in sports, is it the parent or the coach that makes them great? It takes the entire town! Let's get rolling on making "Arnova custom rom 1.4" the best ever!

I agree with your sentiments with regards to the step back on this and until recently I was a moderator on this site, and took the decision to remove my moderation privileges due to my belief that it was unfair that Bob had been Cut out of the equation with regards to any support given and the fact that It would of been a conflict of interest as I am now a moderator of Bobs tablet specific site Freaktab.com.

My take on it is that we have many hundreds of posts on here with regards to the Roms that Bob Finless has spent much time producing to make peoples experiences on there tablets better. And people may be in the dark that there is even a 1.3 versions of the Roms for the 5 Arnova G2 tablets in the forums.

It all seems to have gone silent since v1.2 of the roms so I think it is only fair that people are put in the picture about this and there are new versions that are available and here are some features of his new 1.3 rom.

Features:
1) Google Market latest version 3.4.4 pre-installed and ready to use!
This includes a working Google Calendar and Contacts sync.
Also includes Google Gmail, and News / Weather. All of these are up to date!
No post updates required for Google apps for now until Google updates them.
2) 1GB off app install space (the max possible). Stock ROM only has 255mb
Testers are saying the system is MUCH faster now
3) Full root as /system was converted from Cramfs to EXT3 file system PROPERLY BLOCKED!
4) Added space in /system to allow "root" apps to install there (200 megs)
5) Latest up to date SU and Superuser.apk installed
6) Root permissions granted
7) ADB and USB debugging enabled by default
8) 3G USB stick support added.

And this does not end here as Bob is working on v1.4 for these Roms and these will be released shortly

with many better features.

We live in a free and open democracy, and dont think it is unfair to mention this information on here due to all the relevant posts, information, discussions on the site. People deserve to be put in the picture.

I know this is your site Admin and I respect that and I hope that I have not offended anybody by writing this post and giving this information. The site for downloads of the roms is http://www.freaktab.com.

Our custom Arnova 10 G2 firmware has been updated and now offers the following nice new features:

  • Android Market support
  • full root access, setup with SuperUser application
  • full write access to the system
  • faster storage using ext4 file system (we measured a improvement to read and write speed over ext3fs by 5 to 10%)
  • larger storage space for your applications (1 Gb, 970 Mb free after install)

Thanks to Steve (Ttz642t) for his work on our WIKI, Fenice57 and Finless which firmwares really contributed to the make…

Where is de download link please

Please, check the "Read the original blog post" button, read on Arctablet Blog or use the direct download link:

Hi Admin,

I have just bought the Arnova 10 G2 and so far it's a great machine. As I am a complete novice when it comes to tablets, it seems complicated to install the software for Android Market. Is there anywhere a good instruction for dummies like myself?

I hope you can help.

Thanks.
