I didn't think the kitchen was working yet anyway.  The OP doesn't say it is; and the kitchen thread is closed.  That doesn't tell me anything.

Blog post here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-tablet/arnova-10g2-firmware-update-ext4-market-root-increased-app-storage/

Says:

"We choose to keep  this custom firmware as default as possible, no fancy boot logo, no extra applications. Once you have installed Android Market, you will be able to customize the tablet as much as you want. We will also provide a free “Kitchen” service so you should soon be able tocook and customize your tablet boot logo, applications and settings by yourself."

I can tell you the current Kasty 2.0 download will not work with the "kitchen" ever!  FYI that boot screen thing was my idea to begin with.  See this post here from December!

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/arnova-10-g2-apps-games-themes-sounds/free-boot-screen-images/

Admin promised to work with me on the scripting of it for this site but never followed up.  Then he decided to do it on his own and never even told me he was!!!  By then I had already changed how the bootscreen works in my ROMs so I could do my own thing with a "kitchen".  This showed little respect of you ask me Cry

Finless,

When I say not supported I meant I won't support it, as you explicity requested that users should join your own forum for a single place of download and support for YOUR firmware, so be it.

If you look closely on Arctablet blog and forum you will see how much we are trying our best to help people and provide helpful, accurate and up to date information. Proper credits are always given on custom firmwares and your firmware is no exception. Yes, Kasty firmware is a modified firmware based on my existing firmware, yours and fenice modules, I gave everybody proper credit, please read the blog or the first post on this topic. We are all using existing work and try to improve it. Don't you recall the support you got from me in this forum and by PM when we started to work on firmwares together ? What I have done here is not just a simple change and I had to go to trial and error to get a functioning firmware, like you did. This is still a proof of concept as there was no ext4 filesystem support on Arnova 10 G2 so far and I am experimenting with getting the best file system combination.

Regarding the kitchen, it's currently closed because you asked me to remove your previous firmwares. It will reopen soon to work with firmwares available on Arctablet site. Sharing the kitchen with you initially made sense when we were working together, it did not anymore when I realized you opened you own site without telling me and we had a totally different vision of making a community site/forum.

When you mention stealing, I don't find it too honest from you, based on all the things I mentionned; this is starting to get a little personnal, I really hope this ego thing can stop so we could put our energy in more constructive things.

Can any experienced users give us an idea on how to install this firmware since the instructions are not included here. I decided to give it a shot and when I run "RK29update.exe" with the tablet connected I get a message at the bottom that says "No Found RKAndroid rock usb". It appears I can't go any further.

I searched around and found the procedure for using RK29update and I was able to successfully install the firmware. I'm now having the same issue where Arctools 0.61 did not install Market. How do I get Arctools 0.57?

I also notice the faster boot which is nice.

A detailed tutorial for  RKAndroid Tool v1.29 is in the works and will be published soon.

In the meantime you can refer to this other Rockchip flashing program that works in the similar way and check the flashing procedure on the Arnova 7G2 custom firmware update video

Search the thread elsewhere in this forum for the original 1.1 and 1.2 finless ROMs; there's a post in there with a link to arctools 0.57.  I may have a copy at home; if I do, I'll host it through my dropbox account and post a link later on.

Check the forum thread for links; this also appears to require arctools 0.57, not 0.61, at least for now. Remember, you need to install the drivers so that the tablet can be seen in recovery mode by the PC. Otherwise, when you run rkupdate the tablet won't be "visible."

Here is the link Wink

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/com.arctablet.arctools057.apk

I really need to investigate what went wrong on Arctools after version 0.57, there is really no reason why latests version would not work. Confused

Edit: since it's a common request and until the problem is fixed with latest Arctools version, I have now added a direct link for version 0.57 on the Blog, right column, essential tools section.

I have nothing wrong with giving credit about how I make ROMs and take them apart or using code examples to do your own work. My code is here. Free to use. That is not what I am complaining about. You just took my existing 1.3 ROM and plagiarized it. That’s what I am talking about. So when you say you will not support my ROM then why take an EXACT copy of it and mod it and put you name on it? If you just took a stock ROM and made the changes yourself I would have no problem at all. That’s what sharing code is all about (get it OPEN SOURCE? not open taking someone’s binary and work!!).

So feel free to take my source and ideas and make your own but if you’re going to tell people my ROM is not supported here then take my EXACT ROM release and just mod it and call it yours!! Thats the problem I have. Make your own please. Then you can call it yours. Again "open source" not plagiarization!  In my opinion that ROM should have been called Finless 1.3 with EXT4 because thats exactly what it is!!!  You cannot play both side of this street.  Sorry.  I will complain if it happens again.

Yes it is personal and I take it personal when someone puts their name on MOST of the work that went into my 1.3 ROM. You have the capability and know how to make your own from the stock ROM. Add my changes (source), and Fenice (source), and you can call it yours. Don’t just skip a step, take my "unsupported here" ROM 1.3 and add fenice code saying it’s your ROM. That’s the problem I have and I am pretty sure most all others working on ROMs would agree. We will share code for YOU to make your own not for you to download all the work, make a simple change (I know the EXT4 change was damn simple) and put your name on it.  Not cool....

FYI in a nut shell this is what you did

1) You downloaded my 1.3 ROM.

2) Took apart boot.img (ONLY)

3) REMOVED my boot screen (easy you deleted 2 files)

4) Added all of 5 lines of fenice code to init.rc and added his kernel modules

5) Made the boot.img and called it the entire ROM yours.

What you should have done:

1) Take a the stock ROM

2) Take it apart and add the coding YOURSELF from source provided here and elsewhere

3) Added fenice mods (by the way, I asked him directly if I could before I do my 1.4)

3) Make the ROM and call it yours.

So tell me you did not totally plagairize my 1.3 ROM?

Bob

P.S. your EXT4 is not real.  Unless the partitions are formatted EXT4 your still using EXT3.  The EXT4 kernel will mount EXT3 partitions.  THis is why your not seeing a increase in speed that much!  My 1.4 will have real ext4 partitions.

open source is exactly that , code which is free to ditribute and plagerise as the end user see's fit, UNLESS it comes with a GNU licence . see HERE . That said a LOT of coders have felt the way finless does and that is why Richard Stallman came up with GNU.

As a way forward, I think Admin should apologise to Bob (Finless) for upsetting him about the 1.3 support issue and Finless should be made an Honorary Member of the forum for his contributions and help to the community. Both Bob and Admin should shake hands and move on.Smile

Guys,

Apologies for being a noob here, but I was wondering just how I would go about installing this firmware in the 1st instance.

I know how to do a standard update to the firmware having done that already with the firmware image from the arnova website, to get the full market/framework running, so would love the increase to 1gb of application space and speed increase!

Must say, that I am really glad that I found this forum, as it's been brilliant in helping me get the full market installed on the tablet (which by the way i must say is an absolute bargain for the specs!)

Any help, guidance or pointers to a 'how to' would be really appreciated!

There has been a similar query here, with a few pointers that shall help you.

A more complete tutorial is in the works as well, together with another firmware that is easier to install, but has app storage space limitations.
