Thanks like you said dont think it will make a difference.

I am so used to been able to disable programs and services in Windows to improve boot times it is a bit different on Android so I will have to look into it a bit more, Android new to me but learning fast sure I will sort it out..

Download Android Assitant from the market.  Cool tool.  You can put a widget on your desktop to see what is running and you can kill processes.  Also if you run the app there is a section called "Startup Manager" that allows you to disable some things listed as start up.  Very cool tool!

Hey all,

I got my Arnova 10 G2 FINALLY =D

I've immediately uploaded this firmware (v1.1) but something's bothering me. I can't seem to find the Google Agenda (Calendar) app!

Anyone knows where I can find these?

The tablet doesn't come with the stock calendar. You may search around Internet to download the apk file, or you can use other similar apps like Jorte Calendar which can also sync with Google.

Jorte needs the Calendar apk to work. You cannot just install the calendar.apk and calendarprovider.apk - I have tried. AFAIK there is no way of doing this at the moment.

Flashed the firmware, no problem, a lot of free memory.

Installed the market with Arctools 0.60, apparently it works, but doesn't download.

I can browse, connect to internet, even the market, everything works but no download from the market.

It's not a wifi firewall problem, everything's fine on my  Android smartphone...

Any ideas?

Ok try restarting your system 😉

If that doesn't work, go to Applications and then to Market => press clear cache and delete user details + Press Stop application.

Then try again

Just got the Arnova 10 G2 for Christmas. I've installed the 1.1 firmware and the 0.60 Arctools. I've tried with each of the four google apps options now. When I reboot and try to open Gmail or Market I enter my google username and password and after a few minutes I get the following message:

Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.

This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.

FYI - I have 2 step authorization on my Google account, but I've tried using the Application-specific password, to no effect.

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong, or is there something up at the Google end?

Thanks for your help.

To begin, merry christmas to you all.

Second, finless thanks for the great tutorial.

Third, i've got some problems with my 10 G2. It seems like everything is working normal, only when I open AppsLib I don't see an app at all. After I installed the normal market, 3.4.4 with arctools 0.57 I can see a couple of apps, but very few. Does anybody has this problem also?

Fourth: Does anybody know how you can change the bootanimation? I've tries some option, but now it is just black Frown

Some information, maybe it come in handy.

I'm from the netherlands, used the firmware from rockchip batch tool, and for install I used a windows vista 32bit system.

I am attaching 0.57 although I am not sure Admin would want that to happen?  But it works and gives you 3.4.4 Market which works really well!  Use the "3.4.4 (root Install)".  Really nice Market with this one.

I am sure Admin will fix 0.58 soon but he told me in a PM today he would not be around much over the next few days for the Holidays so I expect it will be a while.  Thats cool....

I will also not be online for a while after about noon tomorrow Pacific time.  After that it wont be until Sunday at best if that.  I hope others use my Firmware so when I come back I can hear it works or I need to do more work 🙂

Here is the link to 0.57: http://www.helifreakswag.com/arctools057.zip

Please let me know when you have downloaded it so I can delete it as I am not sure Admin would approve of me sharing it.

Bob

Sorry guys for the Market install troubles with Arctools lately. Thanks finless with helping with Arctools last release problems, for those who need I have also copied the 0.57 release here:

/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/com.arctablet.arctools057.apk

Finless, your 1.1 firmware in now on Arctablet server and has replaced the older link on the blog article.

/assets/firmware/Arnova10G2/arn10g2-23-1_1.zip

I won't be too available during this Xmas week end, but I hope to have everything cleaned up for a smooth market installation by the start of next week. Then I will look for possible added packages
if needed.

Thank you for your patience.

Start up Arctools on your tablet and go to remove apps. Than remove Arctools from your tablet using APPLICATIONS/MANAGE APPLICATIONS/UNINSTALL.

Now using the link above download the Arctools 0.57 and follow the instructions to get the Market working.Smile

@finless - I wonder if this might be a way to get Calendar and Contacts to work? Could you try copying calendar.apk, calendarprovider.apk and contacts.apk to the system/app directory in system.img? I tried opening system.img myself with 7zip but it wouldn't open. I can upload the relevant files from my phone's CM7 installation if needed. Flashing the files to the tablet might work where copying them has failed.

First off finless thank you for all the hard work and the great firmware i have been playing with android devices since their first appearance and the launch of the sdk package from google my first reader/tablet was a cruz r101 or cruz reader came with firmware 2.0 that was a mess and a half still to this day it is a problem child it is actualy a clone of pandigital exact same hardware and design just different flash and encoding but any way back to the arnova 10 g2 well i actualy have 2 of these 1 is an actual arnova 10 g2 the other is the news one and i have been doing some reasearce and testing on the news one but i will get to that in a few min.

well the firmware is perty good but i have ran across a few issues well not realy an issue for me but here they are

1: appslib seemd to be down all day today but has since came back but to my suprise once it came back there was some issues i noticed I CAN NOT install anything from appslib it says no space available yet the system claims there is 400+mb of space so something is not catching some where either a defunct symlink or applib just dose not know what it is looking at (luckily i had the arctools backed up) market once installed (i used arctools 0.60) works great and installs all apps downloaded as it should so no issues there. but the appslib is anoying at the least since the market only has flash 11 avail and has a few problems running on the arnova basicaly chooses to work when it wants to.

2: there seems to be a slight instability after flashing for the first few boots fo instance i installed angry birds from the market it started up fine but froze for a few min where on the other one it did not and just went strait to the game. the freeze is long enough to cause the os to pop up a wait or force close box i just hit wait a few times and it works. i have only got it to do this a few times. not sure if this could be caused by the defunct flash 11 or not if someone could upload flash 9 and 10 i could test them out. althouh netflix seems to work better with flash 11 so weird. lol

3: now on to the news eddition this rom WILL NOT WORK ON THOSE smething hardware wise has to be different weather it be the way the blocks in the flash is written or something else it bricks most times or just goes into a boot loop forcing you to do a recovery to the original firmware also for those who would like to know (it states on the arnova site that any firmware made for arnova 10 g2 is NOT compatable with the news edition) aparently something has been changed like i said maby cheaper generic hardware so they can sell them cheaper we seen this when dealing with the cruz readers like the best buy one would brick on any custom firmware and carried a shorter waranty. once we took it apart and the devs realy looked into it it was using a lower rev chipset for the flash and the ram so they used cheaper parts later the r103 came out and it was the same way cheaper parts and was so unstable it made many bricks with most that bricked there was no comming back because it corrupted the actual flash because they were so cheap.

if you get a black screen after flashing with a retail NOT NEWS EDDITION that may mean you did not flash correctly you MUST MUST MUST follow the instructions to a T the step about erasing is a must or you will get all kind of weird stuff including the black screen after the arnova logo. you also need to flahs the factory file first even if you have the oem firmware you have to run the update from the manufacturers site aparently it corrects a few things from the shipped version. CAUTION update will erase everything including the games and apps pre installed and the update dose not reinstall them!!!! i found out the hard way when my wife hit me upside the head for deleting her game some sort of frecell (any one who knows the exact name and maker of that game tell me please have to get that back so i can stop sleeping on the couch!!)

any way thats what all i have found so far i may try to disect the news eddition to see if there is any noticable changes from the arnova 10 g2 retail ones. so i would suggest all those with the news one WAIT or you may end up with a not so good door stop or a fancy dust collector. but be warned there may never be any custom roms for the news version it may just be to unstable and propriatary. so you may want to start looking into unloading that news one for some $$ and get the authentic retail one that is proven to work with custom roms

sorry for the long FIRST post but my intrest got peaked at this little device im a modder/hacker/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdchie at heart been doing this for 18 years i dont own one single electronic device that is not hacked or modded that includes (ps3, ps2, wii, 360, psp, dsi, 3ds, samsung 50in led dlp tv, cruz reader r101, and many more :P ) lol any way i will keep playing with this if i can get time i may look at the symlinks for the appslib stuff see what is going on not sure i willg et any where im not an avid linux user. im a windows person Yell
