I bricked my last Philly Tablet with that last bogus Firmware update. It was still under warranty so they sent me a new one. I bought a Toshiba Thrive 16 Gb and today I sold the Arnova at a lost, because I thought no one would do a firmware update. Well 12 hours after I sold the thing I get an Google alert stating that a new root was available, geez what timing. I really liked that tablet, it had the loudest speakers and it would play any video content I threw at it.

I am attaching 0.57 although I am not sure Admin would want that to happen? But it works and gives you 3.4.4 Market which works really well! Use the "3.4.4 (root Install)". Really nice Market with this one.
I am sure Admin will fix 0.58 soon but he told me in a PM today he would not be around much over the next few days for the Holidays so I expect it will be a while. Thats cool....
I will also not be online for a while after about noon tomorrow Pacific time. After that it wont be until Sunday at best if that. I hope others use my Firmware so when I come back I can hear it works or I need to do more work 🙂
Here is the link to 0.57: http://www.helifreakswag.com/arctools057.zip
Please let me know when you have downloaded it so I can delete it as I am not sure Admin would approve of me sharing it.
Bob
Sorry guys for the Market install troubles with Arctools lately. Thanks finless with helping with Arctools last release problems, for those who need I have also copied the 0.57 release here:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/com.arctablet.arctools057.apk
Finless, your 1.1 firmware in now on Arctablet server and has replaced the older link on the blog article.

I won't be too available during this Xmas week end, but I hope to have everything cleaned up for a smooth market installation by the start of next week. Then I will look for possible added packages
if needed.
Thank you for your patience.

I was brave and installed your Firmware Bob according to your help file and worked perfectly.
I had to get the Arctools 0.57 by other means as your link was dead. I installed Arctools 0.60 but although the market installed, apps etc where missing and the market was not in sync so I used the 0.57.
Just got to load a crap load off apps back on luckily I backed all the Apps up so should not be to bad.
Once again Thanks You, and enjoy your Christmas you deserve a break

Does this have the softkeys at the bottom of the screen like true HoneyComb? I'm using Go Launcher with an ICS theme because of the resizeable widgets but Team Syndicates ICS from the market is the closest we'll get to the real deal right now.

Just flashed my tablet last night from 1.0 to 1.1 firmware and it works perfectly, fully rooted and i can restore all my apps from Titanium Backup.
Now my internal memory still have 300MB available, but realized the ROM memory only have 8MB available out of 512MB, will it be enough and last for at least 1 year as I have integrated the update for the Market and 2 little apps to the ROM by Titanium Backup.
From my experience, I feel the apps running on 1.1 is slower than 1.0 (same storage location, most on internal SD card), it takes a little bit longer to open the apps after clicking the icon. Let me try more apps for testing the performance.

OK I just did a ERASE NAND then followed by a >privacy>factory reset. The system rebooted.
Then I installed Arctools 0.57
Then I ran Arctools and selected; Default apps & Market 3.4.4 (root install)
I downloaded the package using the Arctools download button
I clicked "install" using the arctools install button
I cold rebooted the Arnova e.g. turned it off and back on.
It booted back up and the Market app was in my applications list.
I ran it and logged in.
Everything worked.
Please let me know what did not work for you with arctools as I cannot recreate a failure using the above.
Bob
Hi. I am very sorry to be a complete dummy. This is great, but do you know how to log out of Android Market and log back in as a different user on the 10 G2? I cannot work it out. Many Thanks, Andy

Hi, no it doesn't have softkey at the bottom. App responsible for softkeys is SystemUI.apk, I have it in honeycomb style too but if I replace it with default one it is shown properly on screen but it didn't react on touches. Propably something small but I haven't got time to look at it deeply (xmas :))

The stock rom was the same. Load more apps and it takes longer to boot. I noticed this myself especially with apps that run at boot like launchers and what not. For instance, if your using the Go Launcher stuff, that really extends boot time a lot! So this is not my firmware doing this that I can tell. Load back on the stock rom and test again with the same apps and you will see the Arnova logo stays longer (time it). My logo is just a splash screen that replaced the Arnova splash screen. Maybe thats why it seems like it loads longer e.g. your just noticing it because it is different?
Mine should still be faster though. This is because /system is not compressed now. Cramfs should be slower than ext3 because it is a compressed file system. I timed boot with no extra apps installed between the stock rom and my rom and and mine booted just hair faster. I did not time it after loading a bunch of apps but I might just to make sure but I kind of doubt it is slower. It's possible increasing apps space caused something.. Maybe I will test with apps loaded to make sure.
If you like I can make you a parameter file that changes app space back to stock. Using the flash tool from my rom kit you can flash only the parameter file (only check it's box) which takes seconds and it wont erase your stuff. Let me know if you want to try that.
Again the only change made to my rom was /system is ext3 with permissions set to RW, and I increased app space to the most allowed (thats done in the paramter file). Thats it. No other changes. Oh except that I replaced the splash screen which should not effect boot time after post.
However next week I plan on working on some of the things (tweaks) that I have seen other custom roms do which increases performance or at least reports to do that. These are Kernal changes that I have read about. Not sure if they will work for us but might be fun to try 😉

Thanks for that Bob
I have installed ADW Launcher to replace the crappy Android launcher so maybe that is causing some problems with boot time. I remember that when I first got my first 4GB tablet and loaded loads of apps on and boot time went from 40 seconds to 2 minutes. This tablet is a replacement 8GB tablet.
I have been trying various launchers so maybe I will try the stock Launcher followed by some different launchers like Launcher pro etc to see if boot time is different. I trust your firmware I think it maybe a rogue app or game that starts on boot. I am going to install a startup manager to see what exactly is starting at boot so that I can identify the problem.
I have moved some things to the memory card and left some in memory like the Launcher just wondering which is best for boot up time. Using App2sd program it identifies what programs can be moved to the SD card, ones which are tablet memory only. I would of thought that the tablet would boot faster with the apps that start at boot if they where in the tablet memory?
I have seen this app on the Market https://market.android.com/details?id=imoblife.startupmanager.full&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImltb2JsaWZlLnN0YXJ0dXBtYW5hZ2VyLmZ1bGwiXQ..
Will try it to see if I can figure it out.
Thanks for your response I will let you know

When you get all set and tested let me know. If need be I can make a parameter file that set apps memory the same as stock. You can flash that by itself using the tools in my rom kit. It might make a difference but I doubt it.
I wont be around much till maybe Sunday afternoon or even monday. So I will check back then and see if you want a custom parameter file to test.
