Well first off why are you going to manage apps? Even then when you are in manage apps, at the top are you selecting ALL? By default manage apps shows only downloaded apps.... The Market will NOT show up under downloaded selection. You must select at the top under manage apps ALL....
Next, instead of going to manage apps, why not click the app drawer and go in there? You should see a Market app listed in the app drawer. The app drawer IS NOT your desktop... it's the icon on the far right DOCK that looks like a bunch little boxes... That gets you to the app drawer. The Market icon should show up there. If you want the Market on your desktop, hold your finger on the desktop for a while and you will get a pop up menu. Choose application and select Market. Now you will have an icon on your desktop to the Market.
Anyway I am not sure if your a n00b to Android so I am explaining the very basics of Android OS here... Sorry if you already know this but I get the feeling your expecting an icon on your desktop screens which will not happen on it's own.

yeah i know about the app draw and selecting all apps in manage apps, even using root explorer and searching for all things "market" within linux os, only results in finding marketupdater.apk? i can't figure out what i'm doing wrong..
i have also tried the various other installs from arctools(just to see) and the market icon does appear when using rootless install, and default apps & market 3.4.4(android 2.3), btu it gets as far as you wish to create accont /sign in, then exits to desktop or the drawer
Arnova 10 G2 unmodded (yet)

Well remember this as only a tip..... If you have installed all kinds of other Market type installs, on my rooted ROM things can get written to /system. The ususaly reset from factory and all that DOES NOT expect /system to be written to. So some recoveries will not ERASE /system and you will be stuck with JUNK you installed before.
Bottom line to reset to NOTHING.... When you flash EraseIDB otherwise anything you put in /system will still be there.
Best I can tell you at this point as sorry I am not sure what your doing worng.

you do realise searching for market in root explorer is pointless as the market app file is called vending.apk should be in system/apps
Well to some extent that is true but there is actually a Market App.... But you are correct that the Google Market requies many root level apps to make it ALL work.

Just to let you know I managed to get Tweetdeck installed on Bob's custom rom (10 G2) by following these steps from a Kindle Fire site.
http://theunofficialkindlefireblog.com/2011/12/how-to-install-google-currents-on-the-kindle-fire/
and downloading the apk from somewhere else.
This installs the full Google Framework on your tablet. Is this any help?

No i mean the vending.apk is the actual market app. Depending on how the FW is set up some will show the market icon without having the framework.
Like when the market gets updated the only file that normaly gets changed is vending.apk

The FW is working fine. However, the battery is running out so quick (less than 3 hrs vs 5hrs with original FW) !
The boot time is very fast (~48secs) vs original FWRegards,
My firmware is not going to change battery life. It has nothing to do with that. Something else you installed or changed like screen time out, etc is causing that.

hi bob, im kinda new to the whole tech thing, so forgive me. I do pick up on things fast though.
i have an hsn eddition 10g2. i developed som issues with the browser, so i decided to try flashing to the update version on the arnova site. (Arnovatech.com). after doing so nothing changed im going to try your firmware just to see what happens.
i am un happy with the performance of the browser and flash. lots of glitches with ads and page bars idk what to call them but like the bar thats supposed to stay at the bottom of the page on face book, it moves with the page. txt boxs dont let me write. keyboard doesnt open. not all of them but alot.
also any tips on getting started making my own firmware.
