Firstly i would like to tank everyone associated with this site as it has helped me out no ends.

I have got an Arnova 10 G2  thanks to this site i have added arctools and updated my arnova to run Marketplace 3.4.4 (rootless).

Now as it seems like most i have issues now with the memory i am now down to about 20mb's flash memory after installing about 6-7 apps/games, but still have over 1gb left on my SD. I have moved everything i can to the SD but understand that so much has to stay on the flash memory.

Reading though this site i understand that if i root my device to latest firmware i can free up more Flash memory

first question  is this correct?

I am getting a bit of a head spin with the amount of differant ROMS and getting confussed as so many threads have got so many differant links to differant types of ROMS i cant figure out which files i need to download to get the desired effect for my device

Now reading though this site it seems that everyone has become very blase about "Flashing" and "Updating" with quotes like "flash the system to run the update" and i am more then often shouting at the screen say "how do i do that".

So i was wondering if someone could write out a step by step guide on how to go about this and what actions they carried out to do this(i mean in its most basic form as possible) i.e

1. make sure device is off

2. download ****.zip to pc

3. plug usb into device ......... and so on

As i have been unable to find a definitive guide on doing this. (yes im a noowb please treat me as i know nothing) as im sure there are other out there falling into this catagory and perhaps to scared to ask. Also it might be a good idea to make it a stuck thread somewhere so it has an ease of access for any new members like me.

Again thanks to everyone one in advance for your assistance

I've put together some notes on flashing a rom when using Linux:

Given time I'll add more tips and pointers to other useful web page.

No, something's wrong unless you have chosen the worst bloatware on the planet. I have a zillion apps/games installed with the stock firmware and still have half my appspace empty. I am even thinking about moving many back off sdcard directory, because maybe that is causing the stupid wakeup from sleep issue that is clobbering my battery.

Hi Linkstatic,

Its a very good request as I also got stuck at the very first step. Connected my G2 to PC and my PC recognised it as ARNOVA device and created two folders on PC. Also tablet asked to enable USB mode. I just panicked and ejected usb device and gave up. Hopefully someone will produce the guide for us dummies

think i may have mixed you up myself!!

My Nand Flash still has over 1 gb space left after all apps/music/vids have been put on device

the internal storage is now down to 11mb device started off with 256mb

so everytime i try and install a new app im getting  the "not enough space" or im having to delete another app

And this issue i have seen mention of after a few google searches

What firmware are you running on your tablet?

One of the very first firmwares had a bug where you ran out of system space and this was addressed later with firmwares from Finless so that you would not run out off app space.

For what it's worth, there is an excellent guide to flashing the Arnova 10 G2 (and other devices) on this site right here.  I only note that the instructions for loading the drivers follows the flashing instructions, rather than precedes it.  Scroll down and you'll see it.

Once you've got the drivers loaded, and you can routinely boot into bootloader and rkflash sees the device, you can pretty much flash any image file you want.  It took me a long time to flash the first custom ROM, and hardly any at all to flash the latest.

I takes more time to reinstall the apps and settings than actually flash the unit.

As Harold mentioned, the Arnova G2 flashing guide should help you to flash your tablet.

It can also be completed with the flashing video that is on the Arnova 7G2 firmware page to get a better understanding on how RKAndroidTool v1.29 works.

I am working on improving those guides and putting together the information with the WIKI pages about Flashing the tablet that Steve has done.

STOP! REALITY CHECK, please! This discussion is getting all derailed by jumping to conclusions, and leading to needless overkill solutions that have their own negative tradeoffs.

There ARE ways you can run into appspace problems, such as using the first spanish root firmware or by loading many more than the 7 apps you mention. BUT YOU STATED YOU DID NEITHER OF THESE. Then there is no way you should even approach appspace crunch unless you loaded the worlds worst bloat apps, like firefox etc.

Something is wrong with your problem depiction. Better to first recheck that you are using unrooted (and not semi rooted) stock firmware or that you really did shift apps to sdcard directory or that you didn't load ridiculous apps. You absolutely should be swimming in spare appspace under the conditions you describe with only 7 apps. What are the space of each of them listed (the portion not moved to sdcard) - they must each be the most insanely huge apps I have ever seen.

Addendum to above: You must be using the dysfunctional spanish rooted software. The math is simple to tell either way. IIRC settings/appl/manage appl/downloaded shows you 256 avail, the leftover, and how much each app uses on the nand (excludes sdcard portion).

Add up what your 6 or 7 apps should take - NOTHING, chickenfeed, surely. The rest should be pretty much free (a lot!) unless you played with that one early version of root firmware which has half the appspace mysterously gone.

Little Update

Firstly Yes all apps were moved to sd card!!

i reset the device back to factory setting and did a total erase of the nand flash

So i was back to how i got it from the shop 2 weeks ago. Here is where i did a small change i went to the arnova website and update my devices's firmware first i then went through the same procedure again using Arctools downloaded the apps + marketplace rootless install im sure it was the  3.4.4 version but from this point there is a slight differance!! the market place isnt the most up to date version that i had previously. it works which is good enough for me!!.

I then one by one reinstalled all the previous apps that i had on my device  and kept an eye on the on-board storage this time there was/is no issue with the on board storage space and i am currently up to about 15 apps with still over 186mb of space available on my device.

So what was the problem before hand? who knows!!! im sure one of you techy types will have a few answers and im sure some will point the finger at me saying that i have done something different (only thing was updating firmware from arnova website)or not added something that i had before  But i can say that i went through the same steps again whilst watching the YouTube video of how to install arctools so im happy that ive done it all the same, so all i can think of is a dodgy install/download of arctools/apps or there was somthing wrong with the firmware that was installed on my device.

I would like to thank all the peeps who helped me out by answering my questions in a sensible manner. But the under point of my issue is still out there. Other people are having issues so it would be nice to have a clear definitive guide on the step by step for dummies guide which im sure will help out a lot of people and go a long way to stop having the same questions /problem addressed over and over again.
