Hello !

I recently bought an arnova 10 G2 tablet, and i tried to install custom firmware.

However, after reboot, the tablet does not work anymore. i get the splash screen with arnova, then some random white lines, and the G2 reboots.

i read on the internet that it is a RK 2918 chip, so i tried to put in on "reset mode" ( reset button + vol up right ?  ), to get it viewable by winXP, and then tried to flash with Rockchip Batchupgrade, but i cannot find it on the internet.

Can anybody help me fix it ? I guess i needed only winXP drivers and the sotfware, but i do not know how to proceed.

Thanks,

Are you sure it's bricked ?

After ARNOVA message you get corrupted lines for a good few minutes the first reboot, did you see yellow writing updating the firmware?

Try reboot and leaving it 10 minutes.

Have you got power ? Plug in mains, for a moment I thought I had a brick, it kept rebooting after garbled message, powered and it booted ok.

Mine did that the first time I flashed the custom firmware. You just need to leave it for 20 minutes or so and it should boot up fine. After that it boots up normally. If not, maybe try reflashing again

Flashing again probably won't be possible since the device is blocked during boot.

I suggest that you try flashing your device with Rockchip Flashing tool for RK29xx:

http://www.arctablet.com/assets/tools/Firmware/Rockchip_CPU_based/Rockchip_Batch_Tool_v1.4.zip

Either reflash the same firmware or the official Arnova 10 G2 firmware from the manufacturer:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/arnova-firmwares-updates/

The flashing procedure is very similar to the one for RK28xx CPUs:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-tablet/flashing-firmware-rockchip-cpu-based-devices-archos-ht-7-8-arnova-10/

We will update the procedure specificly for G2 models later this week.

In the meantime, you can find tips by other users in this forum, check here this post by oldduck

Same problem here.  I've done everything I could find in this thread and another (http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/arnova-10-g2/arnova-10-g2-bricked-after-firmware-upgrade-different-screen/) that references it.  I updated to custom rom that was released, and it's stuck in bootloop with the same white lines.  I let it loop until the battery saver kicked in (took about 10 hours), and I've been trying to completely drain the battery by force booting it to loop a few more times.

I've pushed the reset button while holding the up volume, and then released it when screen went black (like on the other thread), downloaded and installed new rockchip 1.4 (it doesn't recognize the device because the bootloop disconnects it while windows is still trying to recognize it), and basically driven myself batcrap insane with this.  It's a Christmas present for my kid.

I bought two of them (one for each child), and the second one had the lines as soon as I updated to the custom rom, but after a few minutes, it completed the boot and loaded.  It's working great now.  The first one still won't boot.  I need to fix this asap, it's completely bricked.  And since I changed the firmware, I won't be able to RMA the brand new, just unboxed device.  I have to fix it, and so far, none of the fixes will get me into a true reset mode where I can access the device (whether through windows or device boot menu) to restore.

It's not a philly unit, it's from Newegg.  None of the "explanations" as to why the regular procedures won't work have been helpful.  I need better advice.

You may want to try the Rockchip flashing tool on a different computer, this application is able to save almost any bricked situation. It does its magic before the device boots so it can totally be used in your case.

Please try again preferrably on a Windows XP 32 bits machine.

Hmmm.. I don't have access to a Windows XP 32-bit machine.  And, how does it do it's magic when it never sees the device to flash it?  As soon as I plug in the USB the device starts booting, before windows can even recognize a device connected to the usb, it bootloops.  I seriously have less than a 30sec window from the time I plug in the usb until the device fails and reboots.

This doesn't work.  If I hold them both, then it goes black and does nothing.  Nothing recognizes it, windows says it is not connected, rockchip's device stays greyed out.  I don't understand.  This device does not have enough buttons to properly operate it.   GRRRRRR.  Still having problems.  I have moved over to my laptop, but I still have windows 7 on it.  I do not have access to a WinXP machine.  What do I do.

Has this been ever resolved?

I've exactly the same issue - my ARNOVA splash screen is stuck after an hour - nothing loaded yet.

I can't get rockchip to recognize the device since I can't get it into recovery mode. Whenever I press vol+ and the reset, it immediately goes black (no 15 secs) and when I power it up again, it's stuck at the same place.

And yes, I've tried to press the buttons for 20secs and more ...

Any other ideas by someone? I might have really bricked this one - would really hope to find a way to recover though ... btw, I've tried to root the kasty-ez_arn10g2-23-111.zip

Any help would be most appreciated ...

When the screen goes black, you are in recovery and shouldn't touch the tablet anymore.

You just need to make sure Rockchip flashing tool recognize the tablet (it should show a green square). If this does not happen, please refer to troubleshooting section on the Rockchip flasher page.
