Installed 3.4.4 yesterday from the other thread. I am posting in here only to say that when I tried to install the other files (google framework etc) from the link in this thread, it complained about a parsing problem. I had to use the .apks from the other thread by ultimodiablo. Then I ran the 3.4.4 upload from gerry's other thread.

For some reason sometimes you get parsing error if you
Have unzipped the files on your device. Try to unzip the file
On your pc and than transfer them to your tablet to install.

if you uninstall all the files you installed then install the files by ultimodiablo missing out the vending.apk the install the market only from my file

Persistence will pay off ,Trust me !!!

Hi Gerry,

I have got the Market working on an unrooted 10 G2  using ultimodiablo's files (Market version 1.82). I have now downloaded both 3.1.3 and 3.4.4 apk's and would be grateful if you would please explain step by step on how to upgrade to the latest 3.4.4. I have never done any upgrades using apk's so am a complete beginner.

Thanks in advance.Smile

transfer 3.1.3 or 3.4.4 apks to a folder you'll remember , uninstall the 1.82 market settings/applications/manage applications/market/uninstall  ,then find you market you transfered over ie 3.1.3 or 3.4.4 then install (follow the video above)

hopefully you'll have it

Well I ended up having to re-install after my tablet became unstable, I don't think it was what I installed, but I thought it best to be safe than sorry and installed ultimodiablo's pack and then gerry's vending.apk.  Since then I've had no problems, and downloaded loads.  I will add, from personal experience I've found the newer Markets install fine over the 1.82 version without the need to uninstall (but I do reboot before I run it to make sure).  I just wish I could get BT FON app to work on my tablet, but it seems this isn't the only tablet that won't run it!!!  Once again this forum has been invaluable to me, thanks guys.

Have to admit gerry, on your persistance and help to other Arnova users, well done mate.

Also thank you for the video, especially as the user guide is (shall we say) not the best in the world.

I have got one question to ask if it isn't to much trouble.

I have recently purchased the arnova 10 g2 4gb for the mother in law, and (from reading archos's own website immediately updated the firmware.

I have still got to show her how to use it yet, so i'm not looking forward to it.

But since then i have also got the 10 G2 8gb, and although i have not installed the archos firmware on it yet, I am assuming if I install your market update then do the firmware update this will wipe out the market install, (would this be a correct assumption).

Also this is the really lame bit, I know how to install single apk's, but in what order would i install your  gapps 2.3.4.zip.

I can see the apk's from the video, and I am assuming they are on an microsd card, but I don't want to make a pigs ear of it, and would rather do it in the right order.

Many many thanks for your hard work,

all the best

Hey Sadsack

if you update it first as I it will reset the device to stock

as to the gapps zip only install the vending /market apk and install the others via instructions below

 please folow these steps below

  • follow steps to install-android-market-without-root-on-latest-firmware
  • connect tablet to pc
  • extract files using winzip on pc
  • transfer files to the sd card portion of internal storage on tablet
  • put all files in a folder ie apps or downloaded
  • unmount tablet from pc
  • using the pre installed file browser (files green icon) on tablet  if not use es file manager from appslib
  • browse to folder where u downloaded the .apk compressed files
  • install files in the order below

Download the files from here   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R37RUP26

Extract the files, transfer the files and then install the apks using file manager in this order:

-1.Google Services Framework -2.OneTime Initializer -3.Setup Wizard -4.Talk -5.Gmail -6.Vending (one from gapps file)  -7.Maps

1) After installing all the G Market files go try to login to Gmail. You will get an error.
2) Now go into settings and manage apps. Click on Google framework. Clear the cache files.(if no cache files delete data files)
3) Do the same thing for Gmail and clear the cache.
4) Power down and back up.
5) DONT launch the market but launch Gmail and login. It should work.
6) Now you can launch the Market.

i hope you can understand my method

Gerry

Thanks for the reply gerry, and the instructions,

So it's a mixture of both yours & ultimodiablo's pack.

I had a quick look inside ultimodiablo's pack, and it's a lot different from your pack, (please take into account the noobness)...

I found 4 folders:

app/

Gmail.apk

GoogleServicesFramework.apk

maps.apk

OneTimeInitializer.apk

SetupWizard.apk

talk.apk

vending.apk  (this one we don't use)

framework/

com.google.android.maps.jar

lib/

libspeech.so

libvoicesearch.so

permissions/

com.google.android.maps.xml

features.xml

I'm just a little confused with the framework, lib, and permissions folders, as these contain no apk install files. would I be right in saying that these get used when some of the other apk's are run?

also is it a requirement that you go through steps 1 to 6 every time you want to go to market?

(strange how some peeps only use your pack and everything runs perfectly and for others it requires a more refined approach).

Maybe it's due to some being stock and some not...... The first thing I will do is the firmware update and then take it from there, with your instructions printed out.

(ever thought about doing another vid (for the completely clueless).  P.C.'s are a piss of &^ss compared to these things. and i work in IT.   lol

cheers mate

I had already done this on my own machine and I have just done this on a completely new machine for my father-in-law. I did not even need to clear the data on gmail on the new machine! I had 3.4.4 up and running in about 10 minutes of opening the box. Cheers Gerry (and all who have gone before).
