i am very interested in having the arnova 10 g2 access to ethernet via the usb so i would kindly request for a hack, mod, drivers or custom firmware that allows it

there was already an official update for the archos g8 and g9 that have this feature
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-tablet/usb-ethernet-support-on-archos-g9/

i avoid the use of wireless devices in the house for health concerns so any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you

Register, I am with you, also looking to remove all these nasty electromagnetic fields at home Confused

I remember some cheap old Android 2.1 chinese tablets shipped with an USB Ethernet adapter so it's definitely doable. Will have a look, if this can be done without requiring major system modifications, as we currently don't do kernel code modifications.

If this is an hardcore modification it will probably make it to CyanogenMod 7 or 9 for RK2918 at some point. Will keep you posted in the Blog & forum...

Register, no answer here does not mean no interest in building USB Ethernet support.

Regarding the firmware modifications you can check our Arnova 10 G2 dev. forum, and Steve Ttz642t scripts in our WIKI.

I haven't searched for USB Ethernet drivers/kernel modules yet, so I can't give more information... for the moment.

In case USB Ethernet require serious system modifications, we'll have to work on source code with things like CyanogenMod7 for RK2918...

register i think there has been no reply because people find it is not an issue for them as most if not all the tablets on here have wi-fi, i think you would have more chance if there has been some report confirming that wifi is bad for you with solid evidence, there for it would concern alot more people, however as there has not been any solid evidence to suggest this i think people would have some symptoms by now as most people are in contact with wifi for a minimum of 80% of the day. i truly mean no offence by this but there is nothing to worry about it is a waste of time trying to do this because you connot spark the interest unfortunatley¬† but hey thats just my opinion ūüėõ

Speaking about Wi-Fi exposure, I don't think you should worry that much. You will always have FM, GSM and other waves surrounding you. Don't go to the doctor for x-rays, don't fly and don't use microwave ovens. And set up another set of walls around your house, your neighbours will still have Wi-Fi. Anyways, I am not here to pursuade you or anything. Wink

Speaking on topic, admin recently added support for Bluetooth dongles by loading kernel modules in the existing kernel(not needing the original source). For ethernet, it won't work(I couldn't find any of the loadable modules), so you will need to compile a new kernel with the released sources. The thing is that starting from Android 3.2, the most tablets should support USB-LAN cables, as it included in the stock build. I just don't know how to add it for Gingerbread, you will probably also need to load modules with insmod. I really (personally) think that getting a tablet which supports it will be easier for you(97 Carbon for example, Archos G8/G9/G10, doesn't have to be that expensive with the G9 sold under 200EUR here). Otherwise, do a little bit of google, look at the Archos Gen8 sources and the 10G2 ones(perhaps the ethernet drivers are already there, I don't know) Admin should correct me with what I am wrong. Well, I am also trying to reduce the Wi-FI and other electromagnetic fields when I can Wink

As exelletor said, the Arnova 10 G2 is getting quite ancient and has almost no chance to be updated by the manufacturer.

I did work on porting the kernel to get ICS running on the Arnova 10 G2, at the moment, it's more a proof of concept and a learning exercise than anything usable.

On the stock firmware Android 2.3 source, I have seen some USB Ethernet support than can be built in the kernel or as modules. I'll give it a shot when time permits. I hope it will work right after the module is loaded and won't require aditional support in Android to start the interface, setup DHCP etc...

Cheers.
