I am opening this topic to help all developers and firmware cookers make a better firmware for the Arnova 10 G2.

Our first objective is to get finless current firmware work with arctools to install Android Market out of the box.

This testing firmware actually fails on Market installation with this error "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server".

A quick log at adb logcat gives:

E/CheckinTask( 233): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
E/CheckinTask( 233): java.io.IOException: Rejected response from server: HTTP/1.1 400 invalid hardware identifier: "35569053141436" is not a valid IMEI (expect 15 decimal digits)

grep'ing this IEMI on the device shows that this file: /data/misc/imei/data.dat contains our IMEI.

Changing the IEMI to a valid one clears the error on Android Market that starts properly.

I found a valid (or at least accepted by Google) IMEI here: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1879361&postcount=62

Let's see why this happens only on this firmware and what shall be done with the IMEI...

Let me know what to edit or do.  I will research the IMEI post and see what it is about.

Curious though why clearing data from framework and Gmail allows it to work after a reboot?

In my case, clearing cache and/or data had no effect, looks like the IMEI change is the only option.

You can do:

* either from an adb shell:

echo "FF300421020A59" > /data/misc/imei/data.dat

* or have the follow line added in init.rc (just after the mkdir for arctools) from the boot image:

write /data/misc/imei/data.dat FF300421020A59

This is still a quick and dirty fix, I'll need to figure out a proper way to solve the problem.

Do you want me to quickly cook a new rom with that statement in init.rc?

Nothing urgent, I'd like to have a look at the calendar files so you could put file links in the system image, to get the files installed by arctools...

Done!  I added these symbolic links:

ln -s /data/appsmarket/system/app/Calendar.apk system2/app/Calendar.apk

ln -s /data/appsmarket/system/app/CalendarProvider.apk system2/app/CalendarProvider.apk

However something tricky to think about.  The SyncAdapter.  When Arctools installed Market 4.3.3 rooted it installed this calendar sync adapter in /system/app:

com.google.android.syncadapters.calendar.apk

So I did not use the sync adapter that in my zip file I am providing for the calendar nor have I tested that sync adapter.  Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk work fine with the market 4.3.3 sync adapter. Hopwever as you can see people that are not rooted cant install the sync adapter from my zip file.

Then... I do not know what is installed with the other Market version by Arctools?  So we have to get the sync adapter thing right.

Arctools Market packages are pretty much the same, there are just changes on Vending.apk depending on the Market versions.

The root and rootless packages are currently experimental and may not be compatible with the rooted custom firmware.

Since you have the links in for Arctools, I'm fine to test the updated boot and system images...

OK I tested the new boot.img and confirmed that data.dat contains FF300421020A59

I did not install the new system.img because I do not want to erase my Arnova at this time today as I am testing some apps.  So it's all yours 😉  But all I did was add the new calendar symbolic links so it should be fine.

Here is the new boot.img and system.img

FYI I gave a lot more space to /system so you will need to eraseIDB if you are on my 1.1 ROM.  If you already installed my first 1.2 ROM I gave you for testing last week, you should not have to eraseIDB.

Calendar works fine, it syncs OK with the computer, both ways.

I just made a new arctools package for it.

I still get an issue with the Market, I had to force the IMEI again, and the install market is missing a lot of apps, I will check that closely tomorrow.

Thanks again for the firmware updates Wink

When I use arctools 0.57 and do the 4.3.3 rooted Market, I have yet to have a problem and I have installed it probably 20 times now.  As far as I can tell all apps show up. At least I have yet to not be able to find one someone suggested or I read about.

When I use Arctools 0.6 Market 4.3.3 rooted, it fails with a message about not being able to access the copied file. This is even with my current changes for 1.2

Here is my latest 1.2 ROM for testing.  Admin has it already I believe.

Change Log

1) System has been given 100mb of extra space

2) Symbolic links added for Arctools support

3) Init.rc updated for Arctools support

Admin is working on updating Arctools and solving the issue with getting the Market installed.  FOr me I use Arctools 0.57 and install Market 4.3.3 Root install.  But basically this process and the issues people are having sometimes have not changed.

With 100MB extra space on system. wouldn't be easier just to include the gapps in /system and not via /data symlinks?

will try it now..

Yes I could probably make a ROM with the Market preinstalled.

If you install the Market with Arctools 0.57 and use 4.3.3 rooted install, all the files go in /system anyway instead of /data.  It did on my 1.1 version as well.  However my 1.1 version had only about 4mb of space left in system.  So the increase is for other rooted apps that want to write stuff to /system.  In fact I ran out of space myself in /system when adding boot animations and other stuff.

It's not authenticating with google when logging into market.

Looking at the logcat is seems the IMEI is invalid. Apparently there’s an extra number in there. FF300421020A599.  The data.dat also has the extra number.

Yes that is the problem the admin has been talking about.  Look at post #1 and #3 in this thread.  So I put that in init.rc to see if it solved the problems people have been having getting the Market to work.

So you cant get in at all even doing all the tricks like clearing the data caches from google framework, gmail, and Market?

I guess his fix didnt work then and we are back to the same problem.
