OK learned something else new ūüôā

There are 2 boots that the system uses.  If you have my rooted ROM you see I changed the initial boot screen.  This is not that easy to do as you have to unpack boot.img, add a special .rle graphic, and repack boot.img.  So you have to know linux a little to do all that.  This is why I am offering folks free boot screens.

However there is a second boot screen after mine that can be easily changed.  The Arnova logo shows up after mine when the Kernal, etc is being loaded.  You can change that to cool custom logo's or animated boot screens.  I just did it and its pretty cool.  However it does slow boot time a little bit.  Not much but a little.

You can find cool animated boot screens all over the web!  I used the red spinning Android from this post on XDA

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985251

So here is how you do it. This is a n00b guide as best I can type it up.
You must be running a rooted ROM as you will need to copy a zip file into /system/media

1) Go download Root File Explorer from the Market it is free.  Install it and run it.  It will ask for root access and allow it.

2) Now so you know where to copy the file, in Root Explorer press the back arrow button on the top menu to get back the / (the root file system).  The light grey bar at the top of root explorer shows you what folders (directory) you are currently in.  If you are already at / then no need to press the back arrow. Now click on the system folder and then click on the media folder.  The animation file gets copied into this directory!  OK so remember that!

3) Download a Android anaimation from the web.  It should be called bootanimation.zip If it is some other name, rename it to bootanimation.zip.  The link in the XDA forum above the downloads are a prime example.  If you downloaded say the blue one it is called, bootanimation-blue.zip.  You must rename it to bootanimation.zip.

4) Copy this file onto your SDcard or plug in your Arnova to USB and copy it to your arnova in the top level (root) directory.  Unplug your USB when done if you used USB to copy it.

5) Launch Root Explorer and again press the back arrow from the top menu until you are at /.  If you copied the bootanimation.zip to the root of your arnova then just scroll down to find it.  If you copied it on your sdcard then look for sdcard directory and click it to go there.

6) Once you found the the bootanimation.zip file simply hold your finger on it until a menu pops up.  Select copy (or move if you like).

7) Now use the back arrow again to get back to / root directory.  Click on system and then on media.

8) While in media folder at the bottom should be a button called paste.  Click that and it will copy bootanimation.zip to the media folder.

Thats it!  Your done and ready to see your new boot animation.

Power down the system and power back up and viola!  A cool animation.

Enjoy,

Bob

If you use 7zip to open the archive do not extract pull the desc.txt from the archive and edit it with notepad ++ on the first line change to 1024 600 24 and put back in to the archive drag and drop this give you full screen animation on the boot screen Laugh

CRAP!  The earth rotating animation requires more space on /system....  that thing is 4megs! It probably doesnt run worth a crap on boot but I want to see it!

I have been¬†thinking of cooking a new ROM with more space for /system.... NOW is the time ūüėČ

I will do it now for myself and when Admin gets back I will make the other mods he wants for Arctools easy install.

Stay tuned.... I smell a new ROM in the oven ūüėČ

Also is this tutorial to change your boot up image? or the one that comes up saying ARNOVA in massive white letters lol (personally not that fussed its boot up which I barely do but still curious lol)

this new ROM bob; is it just gonna be more space for /system ... RAM? or is there gonna be some proper¬†noticeable¬†changes? I'm only asking because with every new ROM install means the downloading of Apps again and installing and all that stuff ;P lol (or is there a way around that? with an app on the Market I don't know about?) ūüôā but keep up the good work Bob!

This add like 2 minutes to the boot process. Anyone experiencing this?

Yes it does add a little to boot time but not 2 minutes.....  For me it added about 30 seconds.

As for my new ROM yes it will add more space for system.  A lot more.  Also support for Arctools.  I probably wont release it until Admin finishes testing and updates Arctools.

Been messing about with boot anime stuff,

this is a handy (maybe repost)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234611

handy tool that does what winrar and notepad, can't(as i found out). Creates the desc.txt with the config details(speed of fps, loops, sizing), creates the bootanimation.zip and lets you preview it as well.

(just make sure the folder where you store the "part#" png's,jpg's etc is called bootanimation or it doesn't like it)

Arnova 10 G2 unmodded (yet)

You realize this ain't new news. Androids been able to do this for years since android 1.5 its just a file called bootanimation.zip

99% of the android community already new about this. Would rather know something thats not already on xda lol
