OK since appslib is down and some just cant seem to get Google Market installed or working, there are alternatives.  I have tried some of these like AppBrain and they are pretty good. I feel sad some have a nice new Christmas present and cant get apps to play with.  Maybe this will help.

However disclaimer!  As some have warned my understanding is no alternative market is as protected from virus' etc as Google.  So use at your own risk.

This write up lists 6 alternative markets and the guy gives his rating about them.

Thanks for the link, although I have found appbrain completely unhelpful and just bounces you to google market. Another market not mentioned in that link is http://aptoide.com/index2.html although it has a lot of backlevel apps.

GetJar is nice because you can download paid apps for free, legally. I've also used SlideMe a bit too.

My favorite however, and probably the biggest competition to the official Android Market is the Amazon Appstore. They offer a free paid app every day, and it's not always $1 apps, I've got an office suite that was $14.99 regular price. I've uploaded a link to directly download the Amazon Appstore to save folks some time.

There's also this site/app, I've not used it a lot but it does seem to have some cool apps.

Mobilism Market is an app that allows you to access Mobilism's releases with ease on your Android phones. If this is your first time here...
Welcome to our community. Mobilism is a huge user-powered database of Android (and other mobile OSs) apps, games, movies and books. Our android users have over 17 000 apps, 6 000 games, 7 000 movies, and 32 000 books available to them. Mobilism does not host files on its servers, we use filehosts that our users upload files to. We're very organized. All releases on the site follow an identical post format, and our moderators check all releases and place them in categories according to their types. Mobilism has been around since 2006, and covers a range of mobile platforms; we started as a site for Windows Mobile, but now also have Android, BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, Symbian, WebOS and Windows Phone. We hope you enjoy your stay.

For users like myself outside of North America, this will not work. It appears to and even lets you set up the 1-Click for payment purposes, but then tells you that you are in the wrong zone, even for free stuff.
