Is this basically an answer that CWM does not work with the Cube U30GT C4? Although it has a RK3188 chip? It is more or less a special version and not a wide user base, I'm afraid. Can anyone report if they got it working on this specific device?

Basically, yes. This is an experimental build and while it has been found to work on many RK3066/RK3188 based devices, several have had issues or have not worked altogether. I do not see anyone confirming this build is functioning on a U30GT C4 yet, but I will doublecheck. The messages you are describing sound like your system may not be using standard mount points. Can you get the specific messages that are displaying ?
OK, The following Cube tablets are confirmed to work, but your tablet is not among them:

A good place to ask would probably be in the forum section where you downloaded the firmware U30GTC4 KitKat firmware.
Edit: I can't check myself, not having an U30GTC4, but I should be able to have a look on my PiPO M9 pro for which I published a custom Android 4.4 KitKat firmware.

Can't mount any patition except external sd.
Can't backup.
Finally, can't reboot.

it worked on my PIPO S1S
running kasty-pipo-s1s-422-20130615-rooted firmware
full backup to ext sd worked 1st time like a charm, so thanks very much...

The "iFive X2 Android 4.4.2 CWM Recovery by ManuPC" package is now enabled for KitKat firmwares on the iFive X2 (latest from 2014/01/22) and the Cube U30GT2 (2014/01/21) as well.

Anyone here who successfully installed this on a Kata Fishtab 3???
I tried but when I boot to recovery my screen became blank. (just black)
