you need to use either adb
adb reboot bootloader

either a key combination which i could not tested, because the volume key - was disabled by ARCHOS, but i suspect that is something like
reset and volume key -, or volume key - and power button

When you say recovery mode, do you mean the android recovery ?
If yes, that is not the flashing mode

Have a read here to understand more

Archos sais:

"                       ****PROCEDURE****

1° Run the exe RKBatchTool.exe  (version 1.5 is required) as administrator on your pc.

2° PRess and hold the volume - button of the device, Connect the wall charger, your pc detects a new device and asks for drivers.

3° Windows detects a new device and need drivers, install the supplied drivers of the RK batch tool

4° Once the device is recognized by the update tool in update mode, If your tablet is in firmware update mode, you will see a green indicator. if not then disconnect and reconnect the usb cable to the unit.

5° select the firmware in firmware path; you must select the update file downloaded previously.

6  Click on upgrade to start the upgrade of the device.

7° At the end of the process on the pc, the device will reboot and finish the update, then the device reboots again."

Anyone tried rooting the titanium 80 using the root for cobalt 80? They both have the same specs (CPU, Graphics, RAM, screen resolution) but the cobalt runs ICS. Here's the link if anyone wants a look.

I have the Cobalt 80 and is thinking of getting the Titanium if there is root available. I can only get the Cobalt go to recovery mode using my 32bit Windows 7 laptop and I have to try different using different USB ports.

Here is an official update image:

"ftp://support.archos.com/Elements/Archos 80 Titanium/"

Is there a way to edit this update.img file in the zip archive for rooting?

That's great to hear. Can you post a step by step procedure with the llinks to the file you used? I'm planning to make a FAQs page for this tablet when I get one next week. Any chance for CWM for this too? What's your YouTube channel?

Here is a test rooted firmware for the ARCHOS 80 Titanium based on globula's work.

Download: kasty-titanium80-41-test1.zip

Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool, use Restore button.

Please note it hasn't yet been tested on an ARCHOS 80 Titanium and comes with no warranty it will work on your device, it may even brick it. Feedback is welcome.

Cheers.

I also managed to root the Cobalt using this
http://globula.arctablet.com/Arnova%20Tools/ a script made by me which does not work on the Titanium
We achieved root, by dumping the firmware from a fastboot mode and then editing the firmware and adding root.
SO, there is already a firmware rooted available, just check post number 3.
